  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone ,

Im new to the Forum as I’ve just taken ownership of my recent grandmas 15 Genesis 5.0 . Today I was backing out of my garage and the rear sunshade went down, upon it going down I noticed the trim around the third brake light was handing. I’ve cut the rubber but does anyone have replacement advice and pointers?

pics?

This is a common if minor issue. Losing this bit of rubber means that your back seats get bathed in a warm red glow when you’re backing up at night.

Weatherstripping works well as a replacement part and it’s a lot cheaper than the Hyundai part.

The same thing happened to me ... here in south Florida. I suspect that the part is underdesigned for the heat here.

Same here. Replacement part is $220 for the entire light assembly and not sure how big a job it is to replace but looks like at least the headliner must be loosened. The rubber gasket crumbles from heat and exposure.

I noticed the same hanging trim this weekend. I will cut it and see what I can replace it with.

I tried black electrical tape but it looks tacky. Pun intended. Just wrong for a fancy car. I would spend the $220 for a new light assembly but am concerned about screwing up the headliner with no proper installation instructions.

I had the same problem due to the heat from the sun it dry and crumble. I cut off the part that’s fallen off and replace it with a black rubber seal. Just make sure you get the right size, I think I got a one inch size. And make sure that the sticky side is black not gray.

All this is good info. I noticed a lot of light when braking or backing up at night. I’ll have to look at mine and determine if I need to do a little DIY.

That self adhesive rubber trim looks promising. Much better than electrical or Gorilla duct tape. Hw does the trim ook installed?

I bought a new light assembly and installed it myself. Much better outcome than trying to tape it. I posted a picture of the part in another thread here which has a diy. Try search on brake light.

Replaced the upper brake light so it does not flood the rear cabin with the red brake light due to corroded rubber seal.
Purchased replacement part High Mount Lamp - Hyundai (92700-B1000) from oemhyundaiautoparts.com for $147.

Followed diy instructions from zzz.
Removed rear headrests to provide room.
Carefully and gently pried down headliner from rear windshield. Clips will pop and stay in place.
Disconnected the wire.
Loosened the 4 bolts with a 3/8 ratchet and shallow 10 mm socket.
Replaced the assembly, tightened bolts, plugged in wire, and pushed headliner back in position. Replaced headrests.

Trouble is - Good for only 2 or 3 years. Mine did it when the car was 3 years old and I GARAGE MY CAR NIGHT AND DAY. Poor design/materials.

For that kind of part, 3 year lifespan is unacceptable. And here in south Florida it was LESS than 3 years until it started to disintegrate.
