  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just got a 2012 genesis sedan with 4.6 and was wondering do any 5.0 performance parts fit on the 4.6 CAI exhaust system etc.
Was excited about the 385 hp until I found out it’s a lot less to the wheels really a step down from my built supercharged Buick. I would definitely like to get closer to the 385.

you might be able to use 5.0 performance parts on the 4.6 but I'm pretty sure any performance part for the 5.0 is also made for the 4.6 so not sure if it'd be worth trying to fit the 5.0 parts. You also cant use the later 5.0 twin intake system as they dont use MAF sensors like the 4.6. I dont think you'll be able to get to that 385 at the rear wheels with any available aftermarket parts.

I haven’t found any 4.6 CAI except k&n panel filter but a few for the 5.0. If you have time can you post some sites you’ve seen performance parts for the 4.6?

Look into modifying your stock intake’s magnet door. It’s as easy as opening the air box, and pulling the little door out. A cold air intake isn’t going to be as cold as stock since the stock had a big pickup right at the top, inside the grille. With the magnet door out the cold air from in front of the car can flow freely into the intake.

Would you recommend getting a K&n drop in as well?

I just noticed you said I can use later 5.0 Twin intake, just to be clear the twin intake from 2015 5.0 will bolt on to my 2012 4.6?

SXTH makes a nice cold air intake for the 4.6 that's pretty well priced.

I know what you mean. I had a built GTP that put down 610HP at the front wheels. Got rid of that and got a STS-V. I should have learned since it has the same issue as the Genny with no or very limited upgrades. Granted I love driving my R-spec. Handles better than both previous cars.

The 3800 series engine is a beast. I’m at least trying to get intake and exhaust for a more lively sound. This thing is too stock lol.

I would get one if you’re serious about power. By itself the k&n won’t do much, but with a btr tune, and catback exhaust, you can probably crank out an extra 25hp to the wheels... If you really want power just Nos it.

How many miles, and when’s the last time you serviced your drivetrain? My genesis with 135k miles ran much faster after a Fuel systems cleaning, and a new fuel pump. Changing the transmission and rear differential fluid seemed to Increase the speed of coasting along or downhill.

Have you turned the ESC off, left the shifter in manual, and stomped on the gas? It will auto shift for you at redline.

Look for the Dynomax VT mufflers - they are not made anymore BUT if you can find 1 more (I have 1 extra in my closet now unused) you can have a perfect sounding exhaust for this V8 engine!
This car is a handful if you turn off the ESC and TCS. I mean get sideways very easy. NO need for more power at all unless we can put some much wider rear tires on.
Even with all the electronic stuff on, it is a very fun vehicle though I do have the 5.0 :)

I got it from an elderly couple who religiously serviced it. And I got it with 23k so kind of lucked out there. I have turned esc off but it’s still very intrusive every pull I do the time is doubled because of esc I think I’m going to put on some pilot sport as3 or proxes.

Wow that’s awesome. You might want to try to disable the esc by pulling the fuse. There are writeups on it, but I haven’t tried it because I’m fine with the way it drives. I had more issues with the esc interfering with me when i first started getting used to the Genesis.

Do the airbox flapper delete mod and see what happens.

Now that I’m thinking, if you really want a fast Genesis, tear out the interior and drop weight! The Genesis weighs over 4000 pounds!

Im more into top speed than 0-60 time... I’ve gone 155 mph in my Genesis many times and that is a lot more appealing to me than hitting it at a red light and taking off.

It doesn’t matter if a Tesla has 750lbs of torque, It takes balls to go 150 mph even for a little while...

Im interested in the BTR tune because it increases top speed. Tires are rated for 168mph so I gotta get closer to it!

Sorry If some of you hate speeders but im too used to hauling ass in airplanes. Only test your Genesis’s speed on long straight roads that you know, when nobody is driving. Please don’t tell Cops Jabald told you to.

What size inlet/ outlet would you recommend for the dyno max?

I have this one Dynomax VT Series SS Muffler 17156, Offset 2.5 IN / Center 2.5 Out
That is the only way the muffler will fit "pretty good" in the stock location. The stock mufflers 1 - weigh about 40lbs each (the dynomax are almost 1/2 that) and the stock ones tuck way up close to the under body (for airflow) Take a look at the pictures to see how they installed.
It is great and again I have had these for 2 years. They sound perfect. NO drone at all yet when I get on it, the sound is very loud.
Here are a few pictures and hopefully the video will work. well I cant get the video to work on here - on my computer just fine
either way, these mufflers sound awesome and should have been factory for the RSPEC
