If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In the course of driving my 2010 4.6 the last two weeks I have noticed that at a stop she seems to have a higher than normal idle to the point were there is a noticeable difference from when she is in gear(vibration) or in neutral(no vibration). It is hard to describe almost like the trans is not fully disengaging when at a stop.

I know she is an V8 and all but a car like the Genny she should be calm as calm can be at a stop. You should have to look at the tach to see if she is running at a stop light, not feel it in your seat.

I'm I alone in this or has anyone else experienced this?

Mine is very smooth all the time. I have 82k miles on the car. How many miles on your's? Do you do mostly in town driving?

She has almost 15,000 miles on her now I have only had her for 2 weeks but I drive mainly interstate miles.

I am still getting acquainted with her so to speak. So I am not sure if this is normal or not so much. She had only 14,000 on her when I bought her so I would assume(we all know the story there) she was not driven a whole bunch being a 2010.

Try filling tank with premium fuel and add a good quality injection cleaner and run the complete tank nearly out before refueling. (use premium gas.) Also change the air filter. I'm thinking the car may have been used only in town on short trips. Also get a Hyundai dealer to check the transmission before warranty expires.

Well I tried all the above and still you can feel her idling when she is in gear and stopped. Guess its time to find out how good the local Hyundai Dealers are when it comes to service. I don't have high hopes but well see.

Well local dealer told me that they felt the vibration or hum or whatever you want to call it and that their guess is that it's carbon build up due too poor gas they "cleaned the top end of the engine" with a cleaner that they spray into the intake. 😒I can't tell they did anything you can still tell that she is running what at a complete stop and in gear. They did not have another Genesis to compare it too so that is going to bet next step find a dealership with one and do a side by side comparison. I hate having to do other people's job!

I am in the same boat as you. Car was fine until a couple of months back and it is pretty bad now.
The service tech took it in and while writing it up saw the vibration and said it was bad and would check it out.
When the car was ready, the story was different, they said that the vibration is pretty common and it is there on other cars. I insisted that it was not an issue until recently, nothing.

However one of the shop guys met me while I was trying to get in and told me to punch in on the gas pedal a few times and see whether that makes a difference.

I drove for 20 miles on the freeway, went hard on the gas pedal and it is manageable during the stop (After the exit)

I always use premium gas @ Costco and use fuel injection cleaner once every 1.5k miles.

Good to know that I am not alone in this as Dealers will have you believing that anything they don't want to trouble shoot or spend time on is "normal" I know there are good dealers out there....I personally have yet to meet one.

The vibration is worse it seems to me at random times and there is no constancy with it. If I had to give it some pattern it is worse when cold at first start up but I have had it bad after being on interstate for 30 min at high speed. I might buy the non premium gas story if she ONLY was meant to have high octane but she isn't so I cry BS! Lets face it there are only a handful of reasons for this really. Motor mounts weak or loose, Exhaust touching frame, engine idle under trans load or the Trans. I tend to think that it is something in the trans like the torque converter clutch or something that is not disengaging enough at low RPM.

Giving the car the feel like she has a loaded tranny ready to leap off the line like you used to do as kid stop light racing. Now it is no where near that bad but there is an audible change and noticeable hum in the car when she is stopped and in gear R or D and a noticeable load taken off the car when in N or P. The only way to recreate the feel and sound in my wife's car is to ever so lightly press the gas with the brake on in gear. I have yet to take my Genny back yet to see if they can do anything more but I will keep this post updated.

Update

The theory (race from the stoplight or get a ticket while in the freeway) did work once or twice but the problem kept coming back.

I took my car to have the door handle replaced (The parts came in), I had a talk with the service manager again on this issue. He took it in and said will call me back.

He did call back and this time he was able to see a noticeable difference between similar vehicles. They called Hyundai and Hyundai asked the service guy to check the engine mounts (First loosen them and then tighten it back again). Now the car is at the shop.

They gave me a loaner and I will be updated on the situation by Monday afternoon.

Will keep you posted, good luck with yours.

It takes a huge burden if the dealer could acknowledge the issue and willing to work on it.

*****

Based on my experience, the dealership always says everything fine on the 1st go, but if we are persistent enough, they are willing to look at it again the next trip. Good luck, keep us posted.

Got a call from the service manager.

they are going to change the engine mount and give it a go. will have to wait for another day

Dealer told me that the "Expert" was coming in from Chicago to take a look at her as they could find nothing wrong and did not have a V8 to compare it to. I'm glad for that but disheartened that they need another V8 to compare it too. Really?!? They act like the V8 is monster it's a 282 folks hardly a beast. There should be no perceivable hum or vibration when in gear and stopped period! Hope the motor mount replacement fixes your ride!

**UPDATE*** the vibration/hum that I am experiencing is NORMAL according to the dealer and regional rep and they have done all they where told to do........So as I am sitting waiting to merge into traffic out of the dealers lot with my headrest rattling from the vibration I stop to wonder; really is this normal? Oh the best part is that the service manager told me that I needed to track down a 2010 V8 as they where unable too do so; in order to compare the two to see if it was NORMAL for that car. I like how they tell me that it is normal for my car but then tell me that they don't have another one to compare it too............so how do you know that it is normal? Blank stares ensue.......I have emailed Hyundai USA CS asking for help. Well see what they say.

Wow!!! I don't have the words. That is customer service? So it is permissible for Hyundai to tell me to research my own problem and then report back to them? WOW!

They told me the same thing. ask them if you can file a claim with the BBB Autoline? if so they will help you with your problem. look it never hurt to try @ the end of my problem they gave me another genesis 4.6 Good Luck!!

I have found a used 4.6 2010 right down the road from where I work at a Hyundai Dealer no less; so guess where I am going tomorrow sometime. I am still at a loss as to why people no longer use their heads. They do all that the home office tells them to do and no more. Feeling any vibration in the steering wheel/hearing the dash trim or headrest chatter when the car is in gear and stopped is NOT normal on any car! I mean come on people use your head. Its all I ask.

I believe there were some drive shaft issues with the 2010. I would take it to another dealer.

She is smooth as can be when in motion ;its just that she shakes the steering wheel when in gear and stopped. It is really bad if she is cold and still noticeable when warmed up. Bottom line there should be ZERO vibration in the wheel especially on a ride such as this. I will go check out the other 2010 4.6 tomorrow and report back.

Took lunch today and drove over to compare my 2010 V8 with 16500 miles to another 2010 V8 with 32,000 miles on it. The other Genny had ZERO hum/vibration when it D or R the wheel did not vibrate nor could you feel anything in the seat. I asked the sales rep to sit in both cars and he told me it felt like I had a problem with my motor/transmission mounts or a transmission problem. Vindication! at least for a short time...I then pulled into the service dept of the same dealer and had a service rep sit in my car and he tells me sir they all do this. My jaw is still sore from hitting the center console. I felt like Ralphy when Santa tells him "you'll shoot your eye out kid!" after asking for a BB gun.

I then told him about the 2010 V8 in the lot that did not "do it" he then begrudgingly set up an appointment for me to bring the Genny in next Wed as that was the next time they had a loaner available. We shall see what happens. I have subsequently also emailed Hyundai USA expressing my displeasure and having to do their job for them well see what they have to say about that too.

I truly hate having to go through all this an being made to feel like I am asking for something special. All I want is my car to be fixed!

Probably a bad torque converter. Sell it if they won't fix it.

LOL it took me no less than 2 months of hard looking to find this ride so I don't think that I will shed her that fast; but as a new customer to Hyundai and in a Premium car of theirs I will have to say that I am very disappointed in the level of service and tech experience when it comes to this car. They act like the V8 is alien technology.

Now more than ever I see why the owners of these cars want a separate dealership. The average Hyundai Dealership is anything but a premium experience.
