  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Alright so I just swapped out the factory paper air filter with K&N. I also noticed there's another small filter right where the air comes in under the hood.

Looking to fully remove that air filter since I don't want anymore restriction, just. Want the K&N filter and that's it. (Drop in filter btw)

So question is, is that little filter necessary, or can I just remove it?

That's up to you. How clean do you want the air entering your engine to be? If you've installed a K&N, you're probably not too concerned.

If the K&N filter was as good as advertised, Hyundai would probably make them original equipment.

Let the flames begin....

There are good reasons the engineers put air filters in their cars (and justify their cost to the bean counters). There are also very good reasons why OEM's don't use K& filters.

From the above test:

In 60 minutes the AC Filter accumulated 574gms of dirt and passed only 0.4gms. After only 24 minutes the K&N had accumulated 221gms of dirt but passed 7.0gms. Compared to the AC, the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt. See the data tables for a complete summary of these comparisons.
