  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I took my 2013 5.0 R Spec to the dealer for routine maintenance at 40,000 miles. The service rep told me I was due for a coolant flush and injector cleaning. I told him no. The owners manual says to flush the coolant at 120,000 miles. Obviously he was trying to up sell this item. I can't find any reference to injector cleaning in the manual. Anybody have knowledge about this? Thanks

If you use top tier gas, you shouldn't need it.

Bill, I've read that using top tier gas will help. I am curious why the manual does not mention injector cleaning in the maintenance section. The inference is that it is not a part of scheduled maintenance. I use Techcron occasionally.

In the 2012 Owners Manual, on page 7-9, in NORMAL MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE, there is a list of maintenance items and sechedule. The second item is:

FUEL ADDITIVES*1 - Add every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months

Footnote: *1 : If TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is not available, one bottle of HYUNDAI Fuel System Cleaner Plus is recommended. They are available from your authorized HYUNDAI dealer along with information on how to use them. Do not mix other additives.

We know that in the USA, Hyundai Fuel System Cleaner is the same as Chevron Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner. Right on the label of the Hyundai bottle (same bottle as Chevron but with a different label) it says that the Hyundai Fuel System Cleaner contains Techron (which is a proprietary trademark of Chevron).

2012 was the first year of the 5.0 R-Spec, so I assume that the 2013 manual says the same thing, but I don't have one to check.

Mark, the manual for the 2013 says the same thing. What I am wondering is why the service advisor at Jim Click Hyundai in Green Valley, AZ tried to sell me an injection cleaning. I guess it was for the same reason he tried to sell me a radiator flush at 40,000 $$$$

Are you seriously wondering? Dealers are not owned by the manufacturer and they can do whatever they want.

He was fishing for people who are uninformed about their car's needs.
