If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

5.0 R-Spec: Why so rare?

While I'm extremely impressed with the car stock it's sad to know the potential of these cars will never see the light of day. I know hyundai/genesis never intended on selling the cars to anybody that cares about performance but the electronic and mechanical limitations are just too much. After this one wears out or I get bored with it I'll move on to something with some aftermarket. Honestly I didn't bother to research the car's aftermarket before I bought it, I just assumed a RWD 429 HP V8 car would be covered.
Well, the R spec is a good performer in stock form. Quick and agile for a sedan. The car only need better tires to be a pretty solid sport sedan. However, the power level is pretty much capped out with a small amount of wiggle room for small HP gains(10-20hp) in exhaust and intake tweaking.

The Genesis 5.0 is what it is out the box. If you want a sedan with an engine that is easy to hop up with aftermarket parts then buy a smallblock Chevy LS engine such as a Chevy SS.

XG350 days are a faded distant and not too much of a pleasant memory now but I think during that era is when Hyundai decided to put their foot down and invest heavily in the future spending billions
The XG350 was Hyundai way of telling the world it had higher ambitions that was more than putting out cheap low budget commuter cars. Hyundai wanted to be part of the big leagues and challenge the likes of BMW and Mercedes; which it is now doing.

I think Hyundai and Genesis are doing great against the big boys despite all the critics We can always ask JD Power and Associates for more info

My wish at the moment is to cap that 2021 G70 for my teenage son That 2021 G70 is a head turner and shocker in it's class for sure

I'll drive just about anything as evidenced by the Hyundai, lol, but a GM will never call my driveway home.

No disrespect to General Motors I feel the same way for real Sitting inside anything GM I feel empty and very unhappy GM is not my cup of tea and will never be no matter how much they try to imitate and compete with the rest It is what it is

Hell, the LS engine has as much aftermarket support of any engine if not more and can be easily worked on by most DIY owners. However, it is not the most reliable or trouble-free engine by any means. Hence, why I do not have a Chevy SS. I respect the power and performance of that sleeper sedan, but I can live with the 420+HP of my Genesis 5.0 with a few mods.

The poster I responded to seems a bit disappointed about the lack of aftermarket support for the TAU engine, so I recommended the one affordable sport sedan that will have a crap load of aftermarket support. The LS equipped Chevy LS.

You can make the 415 hp Chevy SS a 500+hp beast with only a couple grand in parts.

Many would still say the same about Hyundai being in their driveway. GM does makes some decent models which are priced fairly well and well equipped, however I do not crave any of them. I am a Genesis fan as of now.

The thing is that once you get accustomed to the R Spec(12,13&14) V8 Sedan it's very hard to appreciate any GM brand I used to do Valet Parking as a part time gig in college a few years back so I got very familiar with GM brands Man the feeling is just like... Uuuuuugh Replica Feeling Like cabins not too pleasant for me to be honest

The Chevy SS interior is very nice to be honest. Not trying to sway you, but being real. The SS is one of GM best made sedans; just not best selling hence its demise. However, it looks like a Malibu with a SS badge on the outside which was a deal breaker for me; even if it is quick and has a nice interior.

Heated Steering Function switch is on the lower Steering Column shroud not on the actual wheel itself So you maybe thinking about unpracticable modifications

That's not an issue. I'm sure a junkyard would have the shroud available in addition to the wheel.
I'd just be curious if the clockspring is different with a heated wheel.

Respectfully disagree on the SS interior being nice. It may look nice in pictures, but when I sat in one, it definitely felt downscale from even the BH Genesis sedan. Lots of low-budge plastic.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I think that heated steering wheel function may apply only to the 2014 model. I may have to upgrade to a 14 I checked my 13 at home didn't find it but I have another 13 and a half production date 4/2013 that carries alot of the 2014s attributes at my uncle house am check on that one on Monday it may have it. I will keep you posted
My Canadian 2012 5.0 R-Spec had a heated steering wheel. The only gripe was that the switch was kind of an afterthought and was hidden out of view on the steering wheel column (blocked by the steering wheel). My 2015 5.0 has a proper switch on the centre console for heating the ol' digits! All told, pretty minor gripe.

No heated steering wheel switch on the bottom steering wheel column bottom shroud on the 2013 and a half R Spec V8 Sedan neither production date 3/2013 I checked I am starting to think besides the 2014 R Spec V8 Sedan any other R Spec V8 Sedan from 12 to 13 with that switch was Northern US States stock or just Canadian stock I won't miss it much in Texas anyways

I think only Genesis cars that were shipped to Canada got heated steering wheel.

You know what you may have a great idea and point there I don't know why that didn't cross my mind but then again not much about that clock spring but rather the heated steering wheel electrical schematic maybe key to your success

LOL. You may be right. GM does fill their cars with plastic and low-grade controls that peel after a few years.

I never sat in a SS; so to be honest I do not know how it actually feel. I had my mind set on a 5.0 Genesis, so i never test drove a SS. Plus, it looks like a older Malibu. I really dislike the older Malibu styling. I do not care how great the car is if I cringe every-time that i walk up to it.

But, it is great sleeper performance sedan per auto reviews.

The Genesis is also a sleeper sedan, but with better styling. My 2015 Genesis still look good even being about 6 years old. The same for the older R-spec models.

Note: The damn SS is worth about $40k-50k for a low mileage used 2016 model. WTF. I guess those cars will be collector models and increase in value as time goes. Crappy interior or not, that car is desirable to many people.
