  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi!

It's my first post here, so I would like to say "Hi" to everyone.
Just to be clear - I'm from Poland, and my english is ... it is what it is. But I would do my best to be clear ;)

I'm a happy owner of Genesis DH 2015 with 5,0L engine G8BE since september of 2020. I do love this car - honestly!
Unfortunatelly - in march this Year, worst thing could happen - had happen!
I broke heart of my darling ;(
To be clear - one of pans finish its lifetime, which of course - bend crankshaft ;(
As I wrote before - I'm from Europe - Poland to be specific. 5.0L engine wasn't even sold in whole Europe in his years - only 3,8L.
It's pain in the @ss for me at the moment, to find parts or even engine for last 3 months.
I found one G8BE 5.0L motor, wich looks almost like new one! Only 35k miles driven!
Onfortunatelly, when he came to my mechaninc - he discover it's not G8BE which I need.
This one which I bought, was taken out from Equus 2014 (probably 2014), which was RWD. Mine Genesis is RWD which makes difference, and engine block doesn't fit to my car.
I know I should turn back that engine to previous owner, but it's incredibly hard to find proper parts, or engnine in our market. It's almost impossible!
So I wonder - if You guys could help me?
My mechanic selled my that Idea:
"Maybe we will swap crankshaft, from "new" engine to old one?"
But it's 50:50 - it would work or not. If not - we can't turn new engine to seller, it cost some mone, so I don't want to lose them.
He told me, it would be good to have blueprints of those engines before we would start to "undress", which could tell us if proper parameters would fit.

So - it's possible to get blueprints of those 2 version of one G8BE engine (AWD/RWD), or it is some kind of Huyndai secret?

If that would help - VIN of my car KMHGN4JF3FU017527
Don't have VIN of Equus ;(

Sincerely

Cyjus

I think I understand your question, The engine you have (2014) i do not believe you will be able to swap the cam, as the 2015 has different cam and dual variable valve timing according to my research.

Yeah - You're probably right.
At the moment, I'm turning back that Equus engine, and looking for another, which shall fit fo my Genesis. It's not to easy ;(

Thanks for Your time ;)

I am also stuck in the same situation. Can you please advise what happened?

To begin with: I made a mistake in my first post. The engine from the Equus was RWD, whereas mine is AWD. That probably made the entire post a bit nonsensical.

To answer your question:
I returned the RWD engine because its construction is slightly different from the AWD version (like mine). After a lot of trouble, I managed to buy a damaged AWD G8BE. That was during the pandemic, and getting car parts for many brands was already difficult — let alone for a Genesis in my small country.

My mechanic took on a risky operation: swapping the bottom half of the engine, along with the crankshaft, into my original top half (because the purchased engine had damage there — I don’t even remember what exactly, it was three years ago). He advised me to sell the car, saying it would either break down within the first 10,000 km, or keep running. He gave it a 50/50 chance.

I love this car, so I took the risk.

During the first two oil changes, I noticed metal shavings in the filter. That wasn't a good sign, but the crankshaft had to wear in to the "new" engine build (made from two different engines). By the third oil change, they were gone — a good sign. I think I've driven around 30,000 km since then.

Unfortunately, I’m now dealing with a new issue: the crankshaft pulley keeps ripping off the crankshaft. The cause is a worn keyway, which used to hold the pulley in place. It can’t be replaced, because it’s now fused with the crankshaft.

But I’m not giving up!
This has happened for the third time now, and today or tomorrow I’m taking the front end of the car apart, evaluating the situation, and looking for a solution using whatever parts are available in Europe.
No idea how this will go :)
