Just wondering who was going to be ditching there 5 Liter for the 3.3T? IF i can keep the same payment i may consider it. I don't race by any means but i wonder if 0-60 times would be different.

Just got this car, so not really in a position to make a long term judgement. However, this V8 is like butter. I love it so far. For me, this isn't really a how quick it is from zero to 60 type of car. But that's me. Drive the 3.3T, and if it rings your bell, make the change.

That was a topic at our Southwest Genesis owner's Sunday lunch today. Zero to 60? The short answer is "yes". Same payment? The short answer is "no way".
 
I have a V8 Genesis and a twin turbo V6 3.0 Mercedes C43. Genesis is smooth and very comfortable to drive, the power is unlimited, you can push it and push it. Benz accelerates quickly (~4 sec with a tune) but i can't say that i enjoy it as much as i enjoy driving a V8 Genesis.
 
Thanks guys.. I reworded the OP.. I don't race by any means i was just wondering since the 3.3 will have less weight that the acceleration would be better.. I love my V8 and it drives like butter.. It would be a tuff choice to switch IMO. I still want to add a rear roof wing and some carbon pillars..
 
Nope, love the V8 sound, the buttery smoothness, and the acceleration. Also, at the track, people underestimate and quickly find out that this sedan isn't just all show and no go.
 
Bought my 5.0 for the noise it makes so no... lol

i doubt very much that 3.3T can even compare to 5.0 when it comes to 0-60 mph and/or 1/4 mile. I know 5.0 engine pushes the car from 0 to 60 in out 5 seconds and runs quarter mile low 13. I think 3.3T would run 5.5 sec 0 to 60 and quarter mile around 14.5 sec but this is just my estimate.
I haven't driven a 3.3T Genesis yet but its very hard to imagine a smoother and quieter engine than 5.0, its simply addictive....

The 3.3T is just as fast as the V8 from 0-60 in a G90 but also drinks about the same fuel. Only good thing is a turbo is easily chipped so adding a hundred ponies or so will be a walk in the park. The other advantages for the 3.3 is no special large displacement licensing fee which costs us $155 a year here in Quebec in the case of the 5.0. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2017-genesis-g90-33t-awd-test-review

this six-cylinder managed to tie a rear-drive G90 V-8 to 60 mph, with both hitting the mark in 5.3 seconds. Although the V-8 gains a couple of tenths on the six through the quarter-mile, clearing the lights in 13.8 seconds at 105 mph compared with the V-6 car’s 14 flat at an even 100

Based on ~10 years of experience modifying/tracking and daily-driving turbo cars, my vote would be to stick with the V8. The turbo technology, and the power that comes along with it, is amazing but long term ownership can prove to be a PITA. Services get way more costly at 50,000+ miles on a lot of these cars, and determining something like a boost leak is a huge pain and happens often as miles increase. Factory components are typically inferior for the long haul as well, I remember vividly digging through my favorite car (2002 Audi TT with a big turbo, awd, watermeth inj) and replacing parts that failed prior to modification. Factory diverter valve used a rubber diaphragm, plastic impeller blades on water pump (60% of which were gone/damaged), etc. That was a bear, but Audi's 225hp 1.8T had tons of support behind it...a 3.3T Genesis in its first few years of production? No thanks.

I do want to upgrade at some point to a V8 and get things like AWD, 360deg camera, etc. So the new features they're rolling out intrigue me, not the motors though.
 
Good news is the G80 is still available with the V8 and it looks like the AWD V8 is now available in the US as opposed to Canada only. :cheers:
 
Not sure where my 0-60 is at, but down the quarter mile, my best time for the night was 13 seconds flat. Low to mid 60s that day and it was at night. This car hauls ass.
 
Those times are for the G90 (Equus) and are with AWD. Lighter G80 with RWD will definitely improve those numbers. :cheers:

Yep, and if one is running a turbo, they had better be using the best full synthetic oil that one can find.

14.5 seconds? doesnt the 3.8 run that time? i would certainly hope 365hp would be enough to get in the 13's. apparently the much heavier non-sports car tuned g90 runs a 13.8. something faster than that from the g80 should be expected
