If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi there,
Its been a month i bought 2015 Genesis second hand. Its been great so far and i am loving it. My manufacturer warranty is about to be finished in next 3 month and before that i am wondering i should have it fully checked for any problem or issue with it. I so far identified few problems like rattling sound from panoramic sunroof for which I am taking it Hyundai next week, there's some noise I experience when driving around 40 kph (Could be engine or body not sure), and also for USB port, my another thread for it is here:
USB connectivity issue with Apple CarPlay - Android Auto with new GPS map software update

I am sure you guys are experience owners of Genesis from long time and know more about it as I am just new to the club. If you have faced any of these issues, please help me. And, Is there anything else I need to have them checked before the manufacturer warranty finishes?

I have 86,000 Km mileage on it.

Thanks,
Dhaval

Your car is 5 years old. If you plan to keep the car for a few years more, get an extended warranty. The extended warranty on my ‘12 runs till 2024 since I don’t drive more than 6,000 mi. annually (retired with 2 vehicles). It’s already paid for itself with 3 repairs.

Is the noise coming from generally around the front passenger area? Thats the latest issue I'm working on.

That's a good advice, i'll check with the dealership.

Yes. It is coming from the front passenger area.

Hey, that's the latest I'm trying to get my dealer to acknowledge. Does it sound like some sort of dull clicky sound? For some reason despite the fact that I could record multiple videos of it, the dealer could never duplicate it. I haven't found time to sit in a car and test drive with em but honestly while I love the car, Hyundai dealers are grossly incompetent when dealing with "luxury" cars, at least in my area.

And that sound is very hard to identify, i could only hear it when i am driving in quite neighborhood area during not busy time. It might be coming from an AC fan or engine. Not sure.

flutter @ 25-30mph

It is the propeller shaft, fairly expensive fix out of warranty.

Mine has 67k miles, and other than the problem above, only happens between 25-35ish miles when car is cold. Goes completely away after driving for 10 min, the center knob stopped working and was 500 to fix.

Glad I bought the extended warranty. Thanks for helping us pin down wtf could be the issue! My car is in the body shop for other stuff. Once its down I'm storming my dealership.

That might be the issue. I am buying an extended warranty for 5 years so i can have a peace of mind.

Definitely a good plan if you are keeping it that long. Be aware that your car will likely be inspected first before a warranty will be “granted” to you.

What did you pay for extended warranty?

If your car is already out of warranty you are looking at $3K plus for a 5 yr warranty extension.

I have the same problem as you mention. See pictures. I bought this accident-free 40,000-mile car 9 months ago, relying on my research and the good reviews. However, it appears that the Hyundai Equus model has yet to master the finesse and the technological know-how that is required in high-end vehicles. Now at 48000 miles, the leather covering of the dashboard has lifted from its base (see pics). I took it to Rick Case Hyundai service department (and to many other experts in the upholstering business) and was told that the leather covering of the dashboard has shrunk (see attached pictures) and may continue to shrink further due to the hot Florida weather. The dealer claims that several similar issues had come up and if this car is over 5 years old, these repairs are no longer under warranty and may only be fixed at a cost of $4,500.00. The high cost is due to the front windshield and the dashboard that must be removed to replace the dashboard cover. As most of us know, cracked, deformed or ripped upholstery inside of a car is not only unsightly, but a turn off as well. Therefore, this $23,000 purchase price has suddenly become a $29,000.00 I was also advised that the Equus and the now G90 models are warranted for 10 years or 100,000 miles for power train (engine, transmission, and differential) only. The electronics or any other component is warranted for 5 years or 60,000 miles. The question that must be asked is: why is the warranty given for 5 years only for electronic components and 10 years for the mechanicals?. In addition to the above issue, when cruising (with cruise control activated) on the expressway at 75MPH, the car would suddenly shut off, slowing down and/or braking considerably, and would self-power-up a few seconds later. On several occasions, while driving at highway speed, the brakes would self apply when passing or being passed by vehicles on the adjacent lanes almost causing me to be rear-ended at high speed on several occasions. When I took it to Rick Case Hyundai in Fort Lauderdale, I was advised that one of the taillights showed condensation on the inside, a fissure on the taillight assembly that probably allowed water to get in thereby shorting the entire electronics. Dealer cost for the repair, $1,800.00. After addressing my issues (by email to Hyundai H/Q), It was requested that I call them at which time I was flatly told that it was my responsibility to have the issues repaired, not theirs, as the car, just recently being over 5 years, was out of warranty. Hyundai told me that any adverse result would be my responsibility as I opted to not have the (more than $6,000.00) repair completed. This car that was purchased for $23,000 has suddenly increased $6,000 in price, to a total of $29,000.00 while being devalued at the same time, all due to manufacturing defects. I ended up fixing the tail light at a cost of $1350.00. I still have the old tail light assembly, when it was removed, it contained about one-half gallon of water inside, the technician who did the repair was baffled as to how the water was able to get inside of the unit as it appeared well-sealed, unbroken and without any cracks. Although the vehicle is a performer (mechanically), based on the many complaints read online by many Equus owners, it appears that Hyundai is lacking in the area of quality control, especially in the electronics and upholstering areas considered as "must" in high-end vehicles. Nevertheless, the above-mentioned issues, if not properly addressed by the vehicle manufacturer, will eventually result in fatalities. In such condition, my wife has opted to not drive the car due to the great probability of getting in a serious accident and I am getting ready to put it for sale. In addition, the manufacturing defects in these vehicles, that appear as similar, according to the many complaints read by owners who have the same herewith issues, are proven to be super expensive to repair. Hyundai/Kia manufacturers are going to have to do a lot of work to regain my loyalty. Hello BMW, CADILLAC and MERCEDES...

Yikes, MothersILM. I hope I don't have those problems. So far all I have wrong is a blue screen backup camera, which I'm hoping will be repaired under warranty, and if it isn't, at leas the camera is only a couple of hundred bucks.

You are one of the lucky few. If, within 5 years, there is so many issues with Equus, imagine what it will be like in 10 years.

Consider breaking this post up by going to paragraph mode. Just too hard to read with the runon paragraph.

Im sticking to toyotas and hondas once i am done with my 2016 genesis, looks great but has its flaws, plus the dealer doesnt really help. you would think there would be a technical service bulletin by now on the flutter and they new exactly what to do.
