  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2009 4.6 with tech just passed 75k this week.

Not quite 3 years old. (build date 8/2008 purchase data 1/30/2009)

Highlights

No service costs beyond normal scheduled maintenance
I change the oil every 5k using full syn.
I replaced the stock tires by choice (for a dedicated summer tire)

1 drive line issue
an engine misfire.
Dealer took no action, cleared the code.
I will call this use error. I started the car in the cold, didn't warm it up and shutdown after moving it 50 feet, on restart it misfired. It is important to allow this engine to idle until the fast idle is done. (20 seconds on very cold days)

Rides as new.
No rattles (First car I have owned to 75k rattle free). This is the biggest issue I have that forces me to trade cars. Generally cars last me 2 years before little rattles and other build issues force me to trade in. I haven't even replaced the suspension's rubber bushings. Which I usually have to replace around 36k as the suspension gets so sloppy.

Interior wearing well.
I am a large man 6Ft 230Lbs, I tend to stress the drivers set to failure early.
So far the driver's seat is holding up very well. light stress marks .
The remainder of the interior is as new.

Electronics - the only flaw
I enjoy the stereo, sound is the best of any car I have been in, the Infiniti system in the M56 is close.
The driver set memory position doesn't seem to hold information if not used for a few months.
A few issues have raised

1. Back up camera intermittent failure
No fix, dealer could not "see" the problem.
Hasn't happened in over 6 months.
The problem happens randomly , putting car in reverse will result in a dark screen.

2. Total head unit failure.
No fix, dealer could not "see" the problem
Has happened 3 times in 3 years of ownership.
Start the car and no radio/xm/cd/dvd/AUX unit will work.
Letting the car sit for a couple of hours resolves the issue.

Summary: The best car I have owned, The longest I have held onto a car in past 9 cars. I have and would recommend this to anyone looking for a large touring sedan.

Thanks for the info

I agree on all points, i have 65K on my car and i've had the same issues, same exact except my car is rattling more then i would like. Maybe it's the oil!!! i've also had the issue with the reverse camera and the dashboard shutting down on me as well as a crack in the radiator which the dealer fixed.

Thanks for the report. I look forward to many trouble free miles with plenty of smiles!

Thank you. This confirms my decision to purchase with the intent to drive this car for a minimum of 5 years. I have NEVER driven a car for 5 years!

Sweet!
Quick question:
Why Summer tires? I understand that the Dunslops were terrible in winter (which you addressed early on), but I found them great in rain and dry/normal conditions.
Nice writeup, thanks.

I am on my 10th year with my BMW and 213K miles. Still a sound car. The Genny is 15 mos. old with 48K miles. My 2004 Acura with 239k was replaced with the Genny. The Genesis sedan is a very sound, reliable and fun car and I can't see it leaving my house even with 300k on it. Also we may keep or Mercedes for a good many years more since it has been problem free. I learned many years ago that new may not be better. I use to replace cars every 4 years or so, but then after getting new cars that were not as good as what I had, I realized I should not have bought the new car. So if its not breaking down then I keep it.

Also thanks for the report at the start fo this thread, however I have yet to have any problems with my car except for the steering wheel limit module.

I "believe in" winter tires. Once you commit to a good set of winters, why not get dedicated summer tires?

I strongly believe northern states should REQUIRE winter tires like parts of Canada does. I see to many people "in the ditch" as a result of poor tire choice.

Great to hear this news. I have a 2010 gneiss 4.6 with 26,000 miles on is, I plan to put over 200,000 on it. About a month ago I had the check engine light come on and some cylinders misfiring. I took it to the dealership and they said they found a leak in the vapor canister hose clamp on the gas tank. Have had no issues with it since then? I do have a problem with the blue tooth that after my wife drives it and it syncs to her phone it will not automatically go back to my phone when I get in. Small annoyance not really an issue.

Once they originals were dead, and I had winter tires, it made sense to go to a dedicated summer tire which would have better grip.

Let's agree to disagree :-). I thought the Dunslops hydroplaned way too much in the rain, and as they wore got very noisy in the dry.

To the OP: Great write-up! Man, much of it matches my experiences, except the misfire issue which I haven't had, but I've always been good about not turning the car off before it exits "fast idle".
