  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I searched but didn't find a thread. My 7500 mile is coming up. I've changed the oil 3x already per the path that others on this forum have taken before me.

The one time I took the car to the dealership, I believe they put a scratch in the rear bumper that is quite noticable. But i can't prove it so I'm letting it go. That said; I really don'rt want to go back to the dealer unless it's critical.

What have you folks done at 7500 miles? Go to the dealer? I don't have the owners manual here but it seems like all that needs to be done is another oil change, tire rotation, and fluid inspection. Is that correct?

Thanks!

Tire rotation AND balance. Other than that, what you said along with checking all fluids and general checks of how things look. Don't forget to check the brakes while you have the tires off.

For me, I do my oil, filter, and tire rotation/balance every 5K miles. Just makes life easier that way.

There is no such thing as xxxx mile service. It is sales gimmick by dealers to charge you outrageous prices for service.

Look in the owners manual and see what needs to changed, and at what interval. Forget about the inspections, that is a racket. If you are really paranoid, look under hood and check the brake fluid level (a bit hard to see through the semi-transparent plastic casing if it is dirty, but you can wipe it off, and use a flashlight if needed--do not open the reservoir).

If you need tires rotated, I would take it to a tire shop that would likely be the next place you buy tires. Costco or Discount Tires are highly recommended. Costco may even rotate your OEM tires for free if you are member (not sure).

If you don't have an owners manual, you can download one at www.hmaservice.com (registration is free).

Just follow the recommended service in your Owner's Manual:

CHANGE ENGINE OIL AND FILTER
INSPECT FUEL LINES, FUEL HOSES AND CONNECTIONS
INSPECT VACUUM HOSE
INSPECT VAPOR HOSE AND FUEL FILLER CAP
INSPECT AIR CLEANER FILTER
INSPECT FUEL TANK AIR FILTER
INSPECT POWER STEERING FLUID (I do this all the time, especially after my power steering failed)

I would get a quote from the dealership for these SPECIFIC items - make sure they're not taking you for hundreds of dollars. Not that they would.

[EDIT] Didn't see Mark's post. Yeah, you can do most of these yourself... though if you are thinking about trading the car in before 48 months and get the guaranteed trade-in price, you have to take it to the dealer.

Call dealers and ask what oil specials they have. I remember getting some coupons from Keyes Hyundai for cheap oil changes. Since I do this all in my garage I just threw them away.
If you decide to go to an independent place, makes sure to keep the receipts. However, it's very unlikely they will have an oil filter for a Genesis and will call a parts retailer to get one delivered to them. The likelihood of that part being OEM, is very low.

From my dealer -

"Of course, for a fully synthetic (Mobil 1 Oil) oil change it is $99.99 for your model and engine size. In addition it is $80.00 for a rotate and balance service on the tires.

For a grand total of $180.00 + tax. If you would like to set up a time/date feel free to let me know."

I can get the oil at what $6/quart at PeP Boys. Oil change for $30? The last 2 oil changes I've used after market filters TJ without any issues. Any reason to go OEM?

$180 bucks? No freaking way. Why do you need to rotate your tires at 7,500 miles? Do you need to? Do you see any sort of wear yet?

I'm working from memory here but I thought it was mandated. I logged into the site mark provided but see no 2012 manuals. I'll check when i get home.

I buy oil in bulk at Costco, Mobil 1 5W-20 or get it on sale at Pepboys or AZO. I have used aftermarket Purolator filters with no problems on the Tau engine, but others have had issue with Non OEM filters and one poster was denied warranty issues. Not really worth it considering the filter is 10 bucks. I have no issues with going to pepboys and giving them the filter and oil and writing on the bottles: 6.5 QTS ONLY). will probably be cheaper by 1/2.

Yes 7500 mile tire rotation is recommended. Take a real good look at the tires, I mean turn the front wheels lock to lock and look at the face of the tread. You may see inner tire wear, which is normal. But if you see uneven tread wear, get the tires balanced and rotated and get an alignment done.

Some dealers list service specials on their website. If you get a regular $29.95 oil change, but supply your own synthetic oil (about $35-$40 at Walmart for the V8), that would cost about $65-$70, not $99.99 that the dealer quoted above. That even assumes they don't give you any credit for bringing your own oil.

Rick Case Hyundai has a service special advertised on their website as follows:
"Complementary Alignment Check, on all makes and models, $39.95 (regular $49.95)".
I guess some dealers have a different definition of "Complementary" than is found in Webster's dictionary.

Let's be honest, isn't 4 oil changes by 7,500 miles a tiny bit of OVERKILL? That's an oil change every 1,875 miles. I know those LA freeways can be brutal, however....

Yea, wth on the oil changes every 2500 miles... that is a crock. My VW passatt 3.6 had a 12k mile service interval... Course Ive had my car for a month and just broke 3k miles on it... so 7500 is about as good as it will get. But I really dont have a problem paying a dealer for some of that work.

Most people change their oil way more frequently than necessary especially if using synthetic. In Europe most change oil between 10-12 miles or more. My corvette manual specifically states oil change at 12,000miles or one year whichever comes first. Oils today are way better than they were 30-40 years ago. Back then 3,000 mile oil changes were the norm. Sadly, that 3,000 mile change mind set is still alive and well today in many folks. Save money, resources, and the environment by extending oil changes.

I took mine in for the 7500 mile oil change and asked them to rotate the tires.

My first 3 oil changes are free, so I was only charged $20 for the synthetic oil upgrade.

They didn't check the fluids but it says they did on the invoice. Tires were rotated front to back, not at all from side to side.

I have the Michelins on the 2012. They don't appear to be asymetrical, so I'm thinking they should've been rotated differently. (i.e left rear to right front etc.)

Oh, I had reduced the pressure in one of the tires to 28. They didn't top off the tires with the nitrogen they charged me for at purchase.

But, I didn't ask for the 7500 mile service, just oil change and rotate the tires.
I got what I requested at a reasonable price. But I'm not thrilled with the dealer.

This obsession with frequent oil change every 3000 miles is just stupid. For one there are chemicals in current oil that burn off in the first few hundred miles. This burn off has been linked to early catalytic converter failure. Second, Engine failure is not the risk in modern vehicles. Its electrical gremlins from repeated cycles of 130 deg interior in July and -5 below in Jan. Most vehicles develop electrical issues long before mechanical failure.
My advise, put your car in the garage as often as possible during extremes of temperature and relax about the engine.

i agree.
i feel totally comfortable changing oil every 7500 miles using regular oil, as recommended by Hyundai owner's manual.
for my previous German cars that used synthetic, i changed oil every 10k-15k miles, also recommended by the manual or computer.

I think Dino oil is fine if you lease or plan to trade or sell before 100,000 miles. If you drive a vehicle for 10 yrs I believe synthetic is best. Again its difficult to reliably operate a vehicle for 10 yrs with all the micro processors and electronics in most vehicles:eek:

That's alot of oil changes! I'm at 4214 and still haven't changed mine
