  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

8sp AT Transmission Whine

Let's stay reality based....it's just an occurance or 2 of a potential tranny problem aside from the slow shifting.

I agree - its one occurrence... I will say if anything that this little hiccup has inspired more confidence with my dealer, Hyundai, and their treatment of me as a customer. It'd be a cold day in hell before my previous Acura dealer stayed late on a Saturday, provided me with a rental, and overall went above and beyond to go the extra mile.

I've bought 3 vehicles from them so far - if they keep it up I'll have no problem coming back.

Update: HMA has authorized a replacement transmission for my Genesis.

No fault codes, no erratic shifting.

Symptoms: gear whine when (transmission band noise) when up-shifting / down-shifting. Also there is an issue after some sprinted driving the transmission would delay (hesitate) when shifting between D->P; R->P -- or really any gear into 'Park'.

Dealer states the should see the new unit stateside in a couple of weeks (approx two week lead time).

I'll keep you guys posted - and this thread updated.

I'm not sold on this new transmission yet. Mine has had a clunk from day one. Whenever I take off from a dead stop it sounds like a bowling ball bumps into something. I need to get it to the dealer at some point.

New unit went in on Tuesday - got it back last night and it no longer exhibits any of the characteristics of the failed unit.

Some pictures (yes crappy cell phone. Nothing to really see as its a fully sealed unit.
