  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey all,

Wanted to introduce myself to the forum. My name is Chris, I am from Washington State, and just picked up a new 2012 Genesis 5.0. I lurked for a little bit before joining to garner information to make a more informed purchase, so a thank you goes out to the good members of this forum! :)

I am coming out of a 2006 Infiniti M45 with 72000 miles, and was originally looking for either a low mileage M45 or a M56. Then I ran across the Genesis. Pretty much the same amenities, and tens of thousands of dollars less expensive.

I purchased my vehicle at Tom Matson Hyundai in Auburn, and between Dealer rebates and Factory incentives I saved over $10,000 off of MSRP.

I look forward to being a participating member of this forum, and as I learn more, hopefully I can help members in the same manner they have helped me.

Chris

Welcome... and congrats!

It'll be tough to wipe that smile off your face every time you get in the car.

:)

Welcome! Black, no doubt?? Pictures please. :)

Thanks! I find myself comparing it to the Infiniti... as in "the Infiniti this, the Infiniti that". My girlfriend brought up a good point: enjoy the car on its own merits, not what it does different, or how it compares.

No sorry, no black for me on a daily driver... way too anal for that! :o Pics to come when I have some time. Got home last night at 8pm from the Dealer, work at 6am this morning. XPEL clear bra tomorrow, tint later this week!

Well ok, black is not for everyone. Some of us can't help ourselves.

You mention Infiniti -- the two cars my R-Spec remind me of the most are a friend's first generation Infiniti Q45 (a car I loved to drive but never owned) and the 79 MB 6.9, which I did own and absolutely loved. The Q had the sound and thrust of a Winston Cup racer, and the 6.9 was fast and technologically superior to anything of its era.

That settles it -- I'm going to take a road trip!

Both great cars there, and yes I agree, both very advanced for their time. I see in your sig that you have the wings, a mod I really like. If I may ask, where did you purchase?

Thanks so much, still learning about it. I spent an hour in the driveway last night going through all the settings, getting "home" and "work" set up in the nav, pairing the phone (no streaming pisses me off, even though CLEARLY stated as a feature in the sales brochure ), and tweaking the audio.

Also, I noted that there is no option for a 5.0 non Spec-R in "vehicle owned" on the forum. I left it alone, as I don't want to be a pretender...lol

Bought the badges from: http://www.sfrusa.com/ Good deal. Inexpensive and arrived fast.

I agree with your comment about no B/T streaming. Got used to it on my last car.

Enjoy your car!
:welcome:

Sad about the lack of streaming. Works in my car, though. Only the tech package excludes it, oddly.

When setting up the home button on the Nav, they say never to use your actual address in case somebody steals your car and takes it home "where you are not." Use the church on the corner instead.

Are you guys saying that certain models don't allow for streaming Bluetooth audio from phone to audio system? As in the system allows for phone calls but not music? This seems like quite an oversight on Hyundai's part.

That is correct . . . The higher end 17 speaker system does not do Bluetooth audio - the basic system does? Go figure. :(

There are three audio systems in the sedan. The base and the Premium have streaming Bluetooth audio. The Tech system does not have it, despite being the high end system.

Yeah... there are workarounds, of course, but they don't allow for on-screen controls of the streaming music. One of the more annoying shortcomings of an otherwise amazing freaking car.

;)

Yes, but the alternatives are all analog hook-ups, aren't they?

I did find a workaround for the streaming (or lack of) issue. It is what I used in my old M45.

See here: http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/23/anycom-fipo-connects-bluetooth-devices-to-ipod-accessories/

Don't freak out on the price, this unit can be had on eBay for $25 to $30.

What I did was plug this unit into the Factory iPod cable; it was already paired to my phone. I hit aux, and it found the device and allowed me to play Pandora and Google music through the Factory system. No, it is not controlled by the system, you have to use the phone, but it is wireless streaming.

I tried it with a normal iPod cable, and it did not work. The PITA part is that you have to unplug your iPod, and then plug this unit into the iPod cable. In other words, you cannot have both hooked up at the same time.

Hope this helps somebody!

Weird... I thought I posted a response earlier, but it didn't go thru.

I was going to say you have a few alternatives that can probably work:

1) A USB/Bluetooth receiver (such as shown above) - no display controls
2) Hooking it up via USB (to act similar to a USB flash drive) - controls display on-screen
3) Hooking it up via 3.5mm jack - no display controls.

Bluetooth sound quality isn't that great either... so even though these solutions may be analog, NONE are as good as throwing a CD or DVD-A in the dash ;)

Granted, these solutions are anything but elegant. After hearing DVD-A, Pandora really doesn't cut it for me ANYWAY.

:)

Agreed; BT sounds quality is about equivalent to XM. I have quite a few concert DVDs in the car, and the system does very well with these. :)

Wow it seems very strange to have made this decision! And to not have corrected it over later model years? Wow...Well I guess I'm just lucky my model has it and that's all there is to it!

That's the problem with supplier-sourced systems: Hyundai doesn't completely control the design or software of the various entertainment/navigation system options. I'm sure they have input on some of the software (vehicle specific stuff, as evidenced by the "variant" settings in the engineering menus) but some of the basic "core" features/software (i.e. stuff that doesn't care if the stereo is installed in a Genesis or Roll-Royce) are controlled/owned by Lexicon/HK.

Think about the folks with the Ford Sync system and all the stories of software bugs & firmware updates on that system... Ford is very much at the mercy of Microsoft. Much of the software is Microsoft's, the Ford parts have to "fit" the rules/requirements and interface guidelines spec'ed by Microsoft. If that spec isn't 100% perfect then Ford's software pieces may suffer too.

The TuneIn radio app is my favorite for streaming audio. You really don't need XM radio unless you are a frequent station changer.
