  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have about 1500 miles on my GV80 3.5L Prestige, and I love the car. But my local Genesis dealership told me that, as of January 1st, they would no longer be a Genesis dealer because of Genesis Corporate's insistence that they physically separate their Genesis line from their Hyundai line, and [the dealership's] estimated price tag of $8 million to execute the separation. Genesis of Bend told me they could still do minor servicing tasks like oil changes, but no repairs or recalls. My next nearest Genesis dealer is in Vancouver, Washington--170 mountainous miles away from Bend, Oregon.

Genesis Corporate replied to a message I sent them asking about whether Genesis would reimburse me for expenses getting the car to Vancouver and they, essentially, told me to "go pound sand".

Genesis of Bend's announcement has caused me some angst: do I keep the GV80 and hope that, for at least the next 4-5 years, I'll need no repair, and there will be no recalls? Or do I sell it and buy something locally for which there is a service department?

To get a sense of the possibilities, I visited our local MB dealership and looked at a new 2022 GLE450W4. It was priced at $82,685. So I told them I'd paid $72,000 for the GV80 and asked about what they'd give me for it. They scurried off, got the VIN and other info and returned with a Trade Allowance of $62,000. When I baulked at the low-ball offer, they showed me the figure below. The figure shows the Trade-in value of Prestige GV80s that dealers nationwide are giving, as a function of mileage.

What's the sense of this community? Keep the GV80 and keep my fingers crossed? Sell it privately, where more might be offered? Or simply take the trade-in offer, get another car and move on?

That is a very tough call. A flatbed tow to/from nearest dealer might work, but won't be cheap.

Don't know if this will help you decide but, I'm at 20K miles on my GV80 and have only done the scheduled services. Put 45K on my 2019 G80 Sport and only had 1 warranty claim on that.

I wonder who would show up if you called for Roadside Assistance?

Assuming you purchased the GV80 vs. leased, you might check CarMax, Carvana and Vroom to see what they offer you. Used car prices are crazy right now and you might find you can get more than the MB dealer offered you if you sell it to one of them. I've checked offers on our X3 for a couple of months and they continue to go up. Good luck.

I live just over an hour away (Hood River) from the Vancouver, WA dealership you mentioned and have been very disappointed with their sales staff trying to order a G70. No one on the Genesis side seems to be able to answer a phone; when I stopped by I was told I needed an appointment. I am sorry to see the Bend dealership go, thank you for sharing the reason they are closing. I was on the list for a G70 at the Bend dealership - despite the mountainous distance - because they were quite willing to work with me from a distance and kept good communications.

ZipK...I have been trying to contact the Vancouver Genesis Service Department for 5 days now, to ask them about their experience with Genesis repairs...how often, etc.... Like you, I haven't been able to make contact. Giving them the benefit of the Holidays, I'll try calling again in the 2nd week of January.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Interesting, as Service was the only area that would answer the phone. If no luck, let me know - I found a new salesperson there who does respond and I'll share his info to help you make contact.

A conundrum indeed. Good luck and honestly, I'd probably go with the Benz.
