My 3.8 was getting progressively noisier under acceleration and my fuel mileage had dropped by about 1 1/2 mpg. I decided to check the air filter and got a big surprise. I ended up removing about a quart of corn from the filter housing. The resonator in the corner was filled to the top and held close to a pint. The worst thing was that each little egg-crate opening in the bottom of the housing had a kernel of corn wedged securely in place by vibration. My vacuum would not budge them. I had to pry out each kernel individually with a hook. The whole episode took me close to 2 hours in 100-degree heat.
With the corn gone, my mileage is back up and the car is again quiet under heavy throttle.
Th corn my wife feeds the deer is now in metal garbage cans and the mouse traps are set in the garage.
