  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was driving home (4 lane divided highway not an interstate, but posted legal interstate speed limit) the other day when something funny happened.

You know those people who drive in the passing lane and don't know they should get back in the right lane after they've passed the car(s) in the left lane? Some of whom also drive 68 or 70 mph to pass someone doing 65 mph and then, when they get past them they suddenly speed up to 75 or more mph? Only to slow down to 68 mph again when they come up on another group of cars in the slow lane?

Well, I was behind 3 vehicles doing that silly stuff in the passing lane. The first open spot wasn't long enough to pass them in the left lane once I got around the cars they were poking past and they'd also sped up.

The next time I smacked the gear shifter over into 3rd and put the pedal down. As the coupe rolled past those three vehicles in the passing lane that had suddenly sped up again after passing the cars in the left lane I noticed a rapidly blinking light in the dash. It was the traction light. I thought, "What the hell??" Then I realized that the engine rpm was right at 6,000 rpm and had built up enough torque that what was happening was when the rear wheels went over the little crack/bump between concrete sections it was trying to spin the tires/lose traction.

I never did look at the speedometer right at that time. By the time it came to me what was going on I'd let off the gas pedal and the speed was just dropping down to about 80 mph and coming on down (drops quickly in 3rd gear at the speed/rpm).

Anyway, I thought it was neat. That little Coupe still surprises me (delightful surprises) quite often.
