  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've recently noticed that Nissan's new advertising is comparing their top of line Maxma to the Hyundai Genesis with a starting price of a couple of thousand less. I could be mistaken but this is the first time a major car company has their product against a Hyundai.

Before it's always been the other way around.

Another sign that Hyundai is gaining respect from other companies.

You know, I bet if you put a comparable V6 Gen next to a loaded Maxima, most people would take the Genesis.

I second that!:D

I third that!
I looked at the Maxima, no comparison. The only car that was in the running was the Accura TL but it didn't match the Genny for features and price, never mind the inside space and ugly nose.

Nissan would be better off comparing it to the Azera - which tops off at nearly 7k less than the loaded Maxima. Even then it gives it a run for its money :p

I think the Maxima is a sweet vehicle...probably one of the closest in values to the Hyundai Genesis. The Maxima has the same horsepower as the V6 Genny...but about 300 pounds less weight. I'm not enamored by the latest styling however...much prefer the Infiniti models...which are much more expensive, unfortunately.

Infiniti has quit making the I series, which was almost identical to the Maxima (but with different styling, better warranty, etc). But it was just too much like the Maxima to attract buyers willing to pay the approximately $3K premium for the car over the price of Maxima. What made matters worse, was that Nissan dealers tended to discount prices much more than Infiniti dealers. so the real difference was $4K-$5K.

I completely agree Dimitry!!! Great example:D The biggest difference between the two is the Maxima is much more sporty vs. the Azera.

The Genesis is similar in price (and with V-6 spec) to the G37. Features slot between the G37 and M35 (upcoming M37). I find the Genesis more luxurious than the G37, and it s 20-25% less expensive than the M35/M45 (you need to compare the Tech package models).

The Maxima? A front-wheel drive sedan in more pedestrian class.

Competition? I've been recommending the Sonata since the last model came out in 2006. The new Sonata will likely establish Hyundai as the leader in that class within a year or two. The destruction of Toyota's reputation, GM as a company, and a few other factors helping. But the new Sonata really is a leader in both engineering and style.

My wife is a dedicated Infiniti fan - she has an 05 G35 coupe that she refuses to part with. But - having lived with my Azera for 4 years, and now a new Genesis - she's looking for a small SUV to haul grandbabies around in, and the only brand she is even considering is Hyundai (she likes the Tucson).

No comparision the Genesis wins hands down. I drove both and the Genesis has more luxury and there is no V8 for the Nisson! I also did not care for the CVT automatic transmission.

This is inherent of all FWD cars.
1. Torque steer
2. Understeer
3. Nose will dive when braking at higher speeds.
4. Uneven tire wear

The two cars aren't mechanically in the same class. What they share is the most important variable which is price.

My last car was the top of the line Maxima GLE and there really is no comparison between the two vehicles.

Any link to that ad? I'd like to see it.

Fwd ruins the vehicle imo. That's why the G37 is available. I agree with others, the Maxima competes with the Azera - large, fwd, etc. There's a reason rwd is found in almost all "better" cars.

Here is the ad that I saw on Edmunds.com

While I agree FWD makes the Maxima a different animal, it is still closer to the Genesis, than it is to the softly sprung, Avalon like, Azera. The Maxima has a sporty firm ride and handles quite well. It is considerably smaller than the Genesis, however.

The Azera replacement will not only get a significant power boost, it will also be tuned less softly like the new Sonata.

And if Kia brings over the Cadenza (which will have an even sportier tuning), things will get interesting (wonder if that means Kia will advertise the Cadenza against the G37?).
