If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am an unfortunate owner of a 2023 GV70 Advance Plus, which I received in June 2022. Ever since, I have encountered numerous problems with the vehicle. Including:

Transmission failure at 1600 kms
Rear differential and torque converter failure at 4500 kms
Rear differential failure again at 8000 kms
Fuel pump failure at 8500 kms
The air conditioner needing a recharge at 10,000 kms
RPM fluctuations while idling at 15,000 kms Ignition coil failure at 17,000 kms.

In addition to these issues, I have noticed problems with the chrome garnishing/trims of the doors being unclipped and not seating properly, requiring replacement. The center console is also loose, and there is a constant RPM-dependent vibration transmitted through the floor, steering wheel, and gas/brake pedal.

Considering the significant number of problems with this unit, it is evident that it is a piece of junk. However, my main concern now is exploring my options. I have discussed the situation with the Genesis dealership, and they have offered a trade-in, but they cannot provide an estimate of how much I would lose in value, as obtaining a new vehicle may take anywhere from 5 to 8 months. Needless to say, I am not inclined to drive this vehicle for another 5 to 8 months.

I am located in Alberta, Canada, and I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience dealing with these issues. Any suggestions or advice on possible options would be greatly appreciated.

If Genesis themselves is unwilling to work with you (I’d bypass the dealer) there’s always this: CAMVAP - Home

Good luck

I'd trade it for something from the brand of your choice.

Incredible that one vehicle can have so many serous problems. Yes, I'd ditch it.

If you are trading it in, what will you get instead?

I've only had to use this process once in over 50 years of car ownership but it was for a warranty claim the dealer/Ford initially refused to repair but not a vehicle replacement. To the OP. Exhaust all avenues with the owner and/or general manager of the dealership and Genesis Canada. Get everything in writing. Then you can make a claim with CAMVAP if you haven't received satisfaction. It's the next best thing here in Canada to the US lemon law as far as I know.

The OP doesn't mention if all of these issues have been repaired or not. If Genesis has been good and taken care of them all then basically just have to live with it or cut your losses, sell it and buy something else. Personally, if I had that many issues though I would definitely not be looking to trade it for another. You could also just get some legal advice in Alberta which might help direct things. Sometimes a letter from a lawyer is all someone needs.

I'm in Canada as well (GTA) and picked up the same model as you in the same month. I too have experienced Rear differential issue which they replaced at about 5 months. It wasn't a failure but a low pitch noise that was consistent at around 80kph. That's the only issue I experienced. If I were you I would get rid of the vehicle. That's too much to put up with. If your dealer is going to make it right by giving you a good price (your purchase price perhaps) as trade that they are willing to hold firm until the replacement arrives, that would be a good and reasonable resolution. I would not just take a trade at wholesale depreciated price. Also if they can't lock it in until 30d before delivery of the new car that would also be a problem. Good luck with the dealer. If you get a crappy offer, reach out to corporate Genesis.

I have heard mixed reviews about CAMVAP, some got a good deal, others were screwed.

Yeah I’m definitely going to get rid of it, just exploring my options and mentaly preparing myself to accept the loss.

I have been offered a $55k buyback for the vehicle, which is based on its MSRP of $60,500. At first glance, it may seem like a decent deal. But the offer does not include the value of accessories (such as mats and a block heater), and I would also lose approximately $3,000 in taxes that I had previously paid. Taking these factors into account, my total loss would amount to around $9,500. I used the CAMVAP’s online buyback calculator, which assessed the vehicle’s value at $58k.

The dealership has been pretty good at fixing things, but it feels like every 2-3 weeks, a new big problem pops up. Out of the 11 months I've owned it, I've only actually had the car for less than 5 months. The nearest dealership is about 480 kilometers away from me, so it's not practical to keep driving back and forth every month or two. I've already put around 6000 kilometers on the car just from going to the dealership. And honestly, I'm always worried about what's going to break next in this thing because all the issues have been pretty serious.

They wouldn't give me a trade-in value because they're unsure when the new vehicle will arrive. They said they'll determine the market value later, which I think is unfair since I'm not a regular trade-in customer looking for an upgrade. They also refused to honour the purchase price. Instead, they offered a $55k buyback option, but when I factor in the accessories and taxes, I'll end up losing around $9500. Not to mention the interest I paid for a year.

What did you end up doing? My gv70 is March 2022. Only 20k KM. 2 transfer case replacements one differential replacement, drive train whine sound appearing again so leading towards another key drive train component replacement.

Dash goes off randomly while driving sometimes and reboots after a while, nav screen went black recently after starting to drive, and blind spot cameras bugging out. Menu went to Korean once as well. I’m also in Alberta, not sure how to proceed…

I'm also in Alberta...had two differentials replaced, steering rack, throttle body, water pump and a few other minor issues. The problem for me is some idiot ran into me when it was brand new so the value will be much lower now...not much I can do.

Still waiting to find out what happens when my warranty expires and the rear diff goes again, as I fully expect it to.

I had this issue years ago with a Pontiac. 13 different problems in the first 8 months of ownership. I went to the GM of the dealership. I informed him that if the dealership and Pontiac made me whole (gave me enough for it in trade where I had no negative equity as I had none when I bought it) then I'd buy another Pontiac from him. If they didn't, I didn't care what it cost me or how long it took me, I'd make them eat the car and then go buy a Ford. He was able to get Pontiac to cut me a check to cover all negative equity after trade-in value. It was for $5,000 with the stipulation that I sign it over to the dealership towards my next Pontiac. Win, win. Go talk with the GM as you never know how he/she will respond. They may help you.

I'm in Edmonton, AB as well and about to pull the trigger on a GV70. Did you make any further decisions on your car?

How did you find the dealership's service was for these issues? Any solutions towards getting a new car? Thanks.

The dealership is actually very good (Genesis South Edmonton). I've always had a loaner car and they've always got me in quickly. The only item I had to wait for was the throttle body and I couldn't drive it with those major acceleration hesitancy issues but they gave me a loaner for 5 weeks while we waited. I haven't had any issues since the second rear diff was replaced (and for a while before that). They certainly won't replace the car - it has 26,000 KM on it already. That option hasn't even come up.

I ended up trading in my '23 for a '24 Sports Plus. I had to take some loss, but given the circumstances, it's much better than getting stuck with a lemon.

It's annoying and disappointing for sure, but the rear differential is a known issue for the GV70. The last I heard, they made some modifications to the replacement parts, and it's holding up pretty well. If that's the only issue with your vehicle, I doubt they will buy it back. As for the dash, it seems to be a software issue. Try updating to the latest version if you haven't already and see how it holds up.

Well, the key is to trade it in or sell it before the warranty is up. Any issues after the warranty will cost you a lot of money.

I heard the little modification they made to the rear differential is holding up pretty well. I've spoken to the technician multiple times, and he confirms that they haven't had as many issues with the new replacements, so let's see!
