  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hubby and I are still trying to figure out what all the buttons do on this new car. Sunday (we bought the car on Saturday) we went to pick up dog food. He gets out and goes in the store leaving me in the car with the engine running. He returns shortly thereafter carrying a 50lb bag of dog food. He approaches the car carrying this 50lb bag and says “Pop the trunk”. Now just before he got out of the car he told me that the button to pop the trunk was inside the glove compartment. So I now open the glove compartment and push the button in there. The trunk doesn’t open. He’s now standing behind the car with this 50lb bag … “Did you push the button?” “Yes I pushed the button” “Well, it didn’t open the trunk, try it again”.. So I push the button a couple more times, still the trunk does not open. So I say to him, “I don’t think that’s the right button to pop the trunk”. And he says “of course it is” and proceeds to walk to my passenger door, open the door and press the button himself. (As though my pressing the button wasn’t sufficient.) And still the trunk doesn’t open.
Then he says (still holding the 50lb bag) “I left you the keys, open the trunk”. He hadn’t left me the keys so I looked at him and said “I don’t have the keys, you do”. He says “No I don’t, you do”. But then he realizes the he does indeed have the keys hooked to his belt loop. So I take the keys off the belt loop and press the button to open the trunk. And still the trunk doesn’t open. … “Did you push the button?” “Yes I pushed the button” “Well, it didn’t open the trunk, try it again”.. So I push the button a couple more times, still the trunk does not open. So I turn the car off and push the button in the glove compartment (which I think is a lock for the trunk) and then the key fob button and the trunk finally is open.
He puts the 50lb bag of dog food in and we drive home laughing at ourselves. We still haven’t figured out what all the buttons do. I think we’re going to have to read the manual!

the button inside the glove compartment is to lock and unlock the button on the actual trunk lid and trunk button on the key fob. the button in the car to open the trunk is on the drivers door by the pocket area right above the button to open on gas cap. congrats on the new car. hope you like it

Love driving the Genesis almost as much as driving my S2000, but not quite. Love my S2000 as well. Two very different types of cars.

There are actually 5 methods to open the Genesis Trunk...

1. Key Fob - only works if trunk lock in glove box is released.

2. Drivers Door button, low near the fuel filler door release. Only works if trunk lock in glove box is released.

3. Button under the trunk lip to the right of the license plate. It feels like a little rubber pad with a bump on it. Only works if trunk lock in glove box is released. If the car is locked, you need to have the proximity key near the car to use the button. If the car is unlocked the button will work without the proximity key.

4. Lock cylinder on trunk lid to the left of the license plate facing, under the lip facing downward. Always works, use the key hidden in the remote. You should "excercise" the manual lock cylinders (doors and trunk) periodically to ensure that they are not frozen up due to corrosion when you need them...

5. Pass-thru in the back seat. With the pass-thru open you can use a long stick to actuate the glowing inside release mechanism that normally prevents entrapment. Only works if trunk is not full of stuff in the way...;)

Good Luck with your new car....

Thanks for the info... who would have guessed there would be 5 ways to open a trunk.;)

Of course we always assume the wife is 'doing it wrong'.....even if usually you are ;). We shouldn't just assume so. I apologize for your husband.

That button in the glove box is to keep the Valet from opening the trunk.

That's the Valet feature... Press the small silver button on the key fob and pull the main body off.
That remains with the Valet. The remaining key allows you to:
A) Lock the glove box after you press the trunk 'disable' button.
B) The key will also physically unlock the trunk and driver door... useful if the battery is 100% dead.
C) Allows you to retain your keyring in your possession.

lol, funny story!

But please do read and re-read your owners manuel as not doing so could not only complicate your lives but put you and yours in potential harm. With today's ever increasing technologies it is not enough to turn the key and depress the accelerator.

There are people that have even caused accidental harm to themselves and others by not understanding the inter-workings of their rides. Not to mention when things stop working due to their own missuse and then the carmaker/dealer is made out to be the culpret = dearlerships increased costs (passed onto us) and service guys scratching their heads all the while getting yelled at by the customer that unintentionally screwed it up in the
1st place...
