Just took ownership of my 4.6 Genesis. Do you keep your audio with the Surround feature on or off?

I keep mine on. Also, you need to go into each mode-cd, xm,fm,etc and set the sound preference for each.

There's no official documentation, but it seems that engaging "surround" on a 5.1 source is what boosts it to 7.1
Go buy some DVD-A's!

I second that recommendation. While many DVD-Audio discs have soared in price as they've gone out of print, there are still some titles available through Amazon at reasonable prices. Check here, and look at the discs marked as DVD-Audio or DTS.

. . . or for that matter, concert DVDs. Leonard Cohen's Live in London DVD, for example, is spectacular on the Lexicon . . . and when you put the car in Park, there's Leonard and the Divine Webb Sisters on the small screen! Amazing! N.b., when you're listening to a video DVD, there are no controls on the screen until you depress the shuttle; that brings up an image of the control system as though it were a DVD player (which it is) and you can then navigate chapters.
