  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I am looking at 2 Genesis that are within $1000 of each other and had some questions:

The first is a 2012 with 48k, I believe it is the base trim as it has the 7 speaker stereo, no disc changer but sunroof and woodgrain dash. The leather looks identical to the other car but seemed harder. It has brand new Doral SDL tires..never heard of them but they are supposed to be Sumitomo subdivision.

The second is a 2010 with 56k, I think has the premium pkg as it has the changer and 14 speaker stereo. The leather seems softer and has Michelin Hydroedges with quite a bit of tread on them. Salesperson rode with me so I did not drive it hard enough to compare to the 2012.

I was curious if the leather grades were different between trims, or if perhaps the harder leather would last longer. I know the 2012 has an 8 speed trans and 43 more horsepower but performance/MPG numbers don't seem to reflect much difference on paper.

Thanks again for any input.

First of all, welcome to the forum. Whichever one you get, pick up an extended warranty to cover the electronics. If it were me, I would get the newer model year. Any issues that found in the 2010 model year should be corrected in the 2012 model year.

I can't offer any help with the comparison between the two. But
I do own a 2010 V6 with Tech package which I purchased new 4 years ago.
After 4 years and 36000 miles I still absolutely enjoy driving the car.
GOOD LUCK!

Base Trim model in USA does not come with sunroof, so that may be an aftermarket one. I would not worry about extended warranty for electronics if you have Base Trim, unless you want it for the rest of the car. I have not heard of any problems with the leather, even on Base Trim. No one needs a CD changer anymore since the audio system plays USB sticks or iPods.
