  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello Folks!

Not new to Hyundai as I've owned a half dozen dating back to my first new car which was a '88 Excel GLS 3 door hatchback. My has Hyundai grown and transformed with every new model.

Ever since Hyundai released the Equus I've wanted one. I said once they reach the used car market I would be able to afford one. Well, the time has come that we are going to hand down my wifes car to my teenage Daughter so we began car shopping a month ago. I didnt set out specifically to buy an Equus but have kept my eye out and we found one last week that we drove and fell in love!!

2012 Signature
38,800 Miles
Platinum metallic Ext/Black int.
Condition is 9/10 as there is one ding and one scuff. Outside of that the car is MINT and well cared for. New Continental tires.

After bouncing back and forth for a week they originally offered an OTD price of $25,000 and I countered with $22,500......Today we finally agreed at $23,000 OTD which includes all sales tax and tag transfer.

Is this about right right pricewise? I understand everyones tax and titles fees differ so for clarification, I'm $21,500 before tax and tag.

Thanks in advance.

If you have already made a deal, why are you beating yourself up worrying about the price? The online websites that value used cars are more accurate as to market value than anyone on this forum (unless they check out those Internet sites themselves).

Good Evening Mark,

Not so much beating myself up, instead, just checking the pulse of the market by those intimate with the product. Currently trucks and SUVs are hot with cars slow and some vehicles KBB and Nada are off from real world numbers.

I close on the deal tomorrow.

I would try about 3-4 different websites that provide used car prices. Also, on that vehicle, I would highly recommend a Hyundai extended warranty. Since you appear to be new to this forum, you may not be aware of all potential problems and repair costs.

Not sure if you have already bought the car

But $21500 is too high...by about $3K in my opinion
The car has no warranty left on it

You might run one of the websites and see what used 2012's are going for

If you said that included the bumper to bumper 100K Hyundai warranty I would say that was an ok deal

If you have no qualms about the depreciation factor it's a great car in a relatively trouble free year with a reasonable price.

Check cargurus, price seems about right, but I'd probably want them to lower it to ~19.5k https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...d=true&modelChanged=true&filtersModified=true

Then I must have gotten a HECK of a deal 3 years ago when I bought mine...:D

Its a low resale car...my mantra is always be careful on low resale cars with what you pay
We are not talking a used BMW 3 series here...

I think we all care about depreciation

Thanks for all the comments guys. After sleeping on it I decided to withdraw from the purchase....I decided at this price without any warranty its more risk than I care to take on.

a good choice ..in my opinion
You never know..if the car is sitting there a month from now the dealer may come around

Otherwise..look elsewhere...if you overpay you will not get that money back when you sell/trade in

Not sure if you mentioned where you are ..but I pulled up a couple of cars.com ads
a 2013 with 39K miles for $18,900
and

a 2014 with 35K miles for $23,900....this one should be in factory warranty

I didn't know whether you had the ability to pull out of the transaction. But since you can apparently "withdraw," you should do more research on the reliability of the 2012 models of Equus and Genesis. 2012 was the very first year for the Hyundai 8-speed transmission and the 5.0 V8, and Hyundai had to replace a fair number of both under warranty. Same transmission and engine were used on both Equus and Genesis V8 models.
