AC Not turning on

Okay so doing some reading reveals that there is no clutch coil at all. The compressor is always on but it does have a clutch looking thing they call a limiter. Probably so that when the compressor does seize it doesn't kill the belt. The ECV is likely controlled by a PWM signal, I might pull out my trusty o-scope to check that out.
I don't have a machine, but the next step after this is to take it to an AC shop. The static pressure is right on the money (doesn't mean squat with R-134a) but it's not even trying. On my gauges it does absolutely nothing. Zip. Nada. Nothing.

So no click, just one thunk like the ECV is trying to work. I believe it's getting a signal but I haven't actually checked it. Might do that tomorrow.
I guess I'm taking it to the dealer to weigh the refrigerant and run the ECV test in GDS.

Sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately there are some things we can not do with out proper tools.
 
My car did the same thing a few months back - There are actually 2 fuses for the AC, 1 under the dash & 1 under the hood. On a whim, on the morning of my appt. @ the Genesis dealer, I removed and reseated both and the AC resumed operation....

Being suspicious of this turn of events, I kept the appt. anyway. The tech confirmed that it was operating properly. I told him what I did and I was told that he's seen some fuses occasionally work themselves out of position in these cars over time... Still working 6 months later.

That being said, there is also a TSB about the AC clutch operation - looked like a switch malfunction that was easily remedied. Can't seen to find it at the moment though.

I might try hooking my o-scope to the ECV and seeing what the signals look like and if they are changing. If they are but no AC I probably have a bad ECV or compressor. If not, maybe the evap. temperature sensor.

It was that condition that the TSB concerned - If I run across it, I'll post back.
 
I applaud your diagnostic skill, but on this car GDS would be a good idea at this point. Too many electrical interlocks that can have AC stay off.
 
How far outside the warranty are you?
 
I'm second owner. The car is just about 5 years old (sold Dec. 19th, 2014) with 58,800 miles. So I have no bumper to bumper but there is a bit of drivetrain left, as I understand it.

You might want to contact Hyundai directly and see if they might provide a "goodwill" repair. You're only outside the warranty by a few miles.
 
Okay, just got back from the dealer and the torque limiter was sheared (pulley was spinning but not the bolt which I couldn't really see) meaning the compressor is seized. Go figure. They ordered a new compressor.
I couldn't really see the bolt without going underneath, which I didn't do. You can see the compressor from the top with the driver side airbox removed.
There is a TSB for this issue: 17-HA-002 if anyone is curious.
 
The pressure sensor seems to be fine, it's outputting about 1 volt for 65 PSI which is pretty close to spec. Guess I have to go underneath and check the clutch coil next.

Done it today: When you stand from the passenger side and looking at the pressure sensor, press gently with the long screw driver on the right hand side connector latch and using long nose players, pull out the connector while still pressing on the lutch
