Acceleration Lag

I got the 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Touring about a month ago.
I had a incident where I had to accelerate but when i stepped on
the pedal, the car lag for a second or two before it took off.
Is this a common problem or should i have the dealership check it out?

not necessarily a problem. this is typical in the sedan too. everything is sooo nannied/over-ruled by the computers and technology in these cars. if its as severe as you say (around 2 whole seconds or more) then that does not seem too normal, you might want to have it checked out.

That is not normal for the R-Spec sedan I drive. I'd take it in.

Same problem in my 2012 3.8 sedan. Have an old 93 Cadillac Allante with the Northstar V-8 but when you floor it, it takes off immediately like a scalded cat. So much for progress.

I bought a new 2012 Genesis 4.6 from Palm Springs Hyundai and at around the 2,000 mile mark it developed the same lag. Now it has 4,800 miles. In stop and go city traffic I get left behind, unless I push hard to open the throttle.

Hyundai Palm Springs inspected the car yesterday and tell me that is normal. A designed feature. B.S. I say, I've had Jaguars, Nexus, Lincoln MK 8 and none had throttle lag.

Hyundai should be professional and acknowledge the issue and modify their software.

I'm not finished with this problem.

I have a 2012 3.8L V6 sedan. I frequently encounter this problem when trying to pass on the freeway or after coming to a stop at an intersection. I step on the gas and nothing happens for several seconds. Then all of a sudden the car lunges forward. I bring it to the attention of the dealer every time I bring it in for service but they just tell me everything is in order. I've had several near misses as a result of this problem. It reminds me of the old flooded carburetors from the 60's/70's.

Ditto, I have the same thing in my 2012 V6. I think it is just poor programming in the transmission control unit. And with mine, it has felt like a couple seconds too. That is forever when you want acceleration for a traffic merge.

This is yet another defect and design flaw. The V6 sedan I had before the 5.0 TAU had this issue. One way to overcome this is press the throttle down partially first, then punch it. If you do this in proper sequence it will not have the delay.

My 5.0 does not have this much a problem. However it still is too much delay.

All these documented and readable flaws in several area,on this forum, and the dealers ignoring the customer as a straw man for Hyundai does not help.

Seriously, do you have any idea how drive by wire throttle bodies work? It's not a design flaw. In fact it's well documented across every manufacturer that has DBW.

When you have acceleration lag how far are you pushing the pedal down? if you want immediate results, hyundai EXPECTS you to floor it (activating the kickdown switch). The overly aggressive ESC will keep everything straight.

On a car with 6, 7, 8, 10 gears, the WORST thing you can do is give the car 1/2 throttle or 3/4 throttle when you need IMMEDIATE results. This will cause the car to slowly downshift to try and anticipate what you want, as you slowly press the pedal harder. By the time you get the pedal far enough down to have the throttle response you desire 2 seconds have passed.

You won't flood the engine, you will just tell the car to give you everything it has immediately.

I just drive with the traction control off. It doesn't have the lag when you step on it, and it drives much better.

Solution for E46 Drive By Wire Delay. Remember speaking about this recently.

I have the sprint booster. It doesn’t help the lag. To me, it feels like the tranny just doesn’t know which gear to select. It’s a moment of indecision in the car. The sprint booster is a fun little add. But it didn’t fix the issue.

I have a 2015 and it also suffers from this 1 second or so lag. My buddy also has a 2015 and ditto. It is very frustrating and dangerous If find if I punch it seems to shorten the lag. versus rolling slower into it. It also lags in sport mode as well.
The Dealer says it is normal...

I also believe it is in the trans.
