  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Accident Repair Cost? Or is it Totaled?

C2E4C370-4710-40DB-AA38-C5DE86301081.webpJust got the repair estimate back today after they did a teardown. The found electrical damage and the rails of the car were bent. She’s toast. Just waiting for insurance to confirm.

Yeah that’s what we all thought when we saw the nature of the impact damage. Once the frame rails bend even a hair the vehicle will never be the same again.

if the repair bill exceeds 70% of the book value they total it. dont forget they owe you for tax & tag transfer on to your new car & if you had any personal items damaged in the car like glasses ,watch, laptop they owe that also

I hope your Insurance Company is providing a replacement rental.??

I’m curious if they would reimburse me for the new tires and brake job I just had done on it as well as the aftermarket remote starter I had installed at a shop.

Doubt it. They are just part of the total value of the car.

They might on the remote starter since it was a upgrade you did no on the tires or brake job I had a custom show truck they paid me Blue book value for the truck plus any receipts I had for customized parts

State Farm called today and I was transferred to total loss ONLY to find out that the other party’s insurance only has 25k limit for property damage… The total payout from State Farm was offered at 36K. So I came out ahead. I found a 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T in Polar Ice about 2 hours away that I was ready to go out this weekend and purchase.

So now, I have to raise a claim with my own insurance and once that is settled my insurance will go after hers for up to 25k. I really hope they use the existing vehicle evaluation and estimate write up from the shop where my car is sitting and don’t make repeat this process over again.

Don’t forget to ask them to pay for the dinner you ate right before the accident.

Nope, not claimable unless he threw up.

Still dealing with the accident of my 2017 G80 almost a month later… Other client policy limits with State Farm didn’t cover the total loss payout after State Farm declared it totaled, it came up short about 12k. So I had to switch over and file a claim with my insurance, Progressive. They won’t use State Farm’s estimate as they write their own. So the vehicle has essentially has been “untotaled”. Right now the adjuster says it’s repairable (again) off the preliminary estimate they wrote and the vehicle has to be torn down again.

I noticed that there were items on State Farm’s final estimate that were missing from Progressive’s preliminary estimate, that would have added significant cost the repair, like sensors for the SCC, the sensors for the BSM system under the bumper, the trunk lid, frame rails, and items for the trunk to put it back together.

Has anyone dealt with progressive for repairs and/or total losses?

What a pain.

Uninsured/ under-insured is supposed to pick up the slack in cases where the at fault party does not carry enough coverage to repair or in your case total the vehicle. The at fault party should still be responsible for the bulk of the cost here. Seems what progressive may be doing is parts not yet proven to not be still functional like sensors they assume will still work. If they don’t work once reinstalled they will do a supplement change order to allow for new ones to be installed and they will add that cost in. At that point it’s too late to un-total a vehicle already almost repaired. You need to argue or get the body shop to do such that sensors are suspect and cost needs to be factored in now before any repairs are done so vehicle can be totaled. With damage such as what you have the diminished value after such a major repair will be large and really hurts resale value. That all needs to be factored in too.

Agreed. I’m still trying to get it to swing as totaled again. Progressive adjuster claims that the shop only included the sensors in the first estimate because they assume that they are damaged and don’t actually confirm. That’s the main thing that swung it as totaled by State Farm. Since Progressive writes their own estimates they have to have evidence of documentation of damaged components to include them in the estimate. I already had a 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T in Polar Ice slip through because of this. I am not a happy camper right now. I’m just at a total loss of what to do at this point.

If you are not at fault then check your state laws, you might be able to claim the depreciation in car value caused by the accident, google 'Diminished Value Claims'. You probably should hire an attorney to get the most out of the insurance company.

Body shop I use told me that
State Farm is easy to work with.
Progressive VERY difficult.

It’s totaled. Progressive was very difficult to work with. I may consider changing companies. Only gripe I found with my Havana Red is an issue that I found on the forums with the mismatched colors for the bumpers.
