  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Accuracy of "Average Fuel Consumption"

Sorry Mark,
I didn't realis ethat you had inside information to how Hyundai conducts bussiness. Guess you must work for them, or have a spy who does as you seem to be full of information about the company that others are not privy to.

IMO since many of us are having discrepancies between the computer rated MPG and actual calculated MPG I would like to get a software upgrade so that it will display what the MPG actually is. With that said it doesn't matter to me why the calculation is off I just want it corrected.

As for the accuracy of the shown vs actual MPG, I gave up checking mine as the few times I did, it was correct. I don't focus on the MPG as I didn't buy the car based on the MPG numbers. I just enjoy the drive and the power. ;)

If I had an R-Spec I wouldn't care about MPG either but I don't have an R-Spec. I bought the V-6 Genny as an upgrade from my 04' G35. Larger car with more features and better gas mileage. It is better but not by as much as was advertised.

No, I have no inside info. The fact that Hyundai changed their EPA MPG measurement procedures was widely documented in the media, and voluntarily admitted to by Hyundai. I was just correcting that one misstatement.

I think Hyundai did an excellent job of stepping up to the plate with the reimbursement program to compensate consumers for the discrepancies. Although I have a 2009 and am not impacted by this, if I had a 2011-2012 I would be completely satisfied with Hyundai's response.

We all know that you are refusing to accept the reimbursement for the inaccurate EPA MPG numbers, which I find rather odd, but that is your right to do so if you wish. But if factual misstatements are made about this issue, others have a right to correct them.

As others have noted, I would like them to correct the calculations of MPG displayed in the instrument cluster. Even if they can't make it 100% accurate for all types of driving, sounds like they should just lower it by 1 MPG, and that would probably satisfy most people.

From Pitt to Philly . . . . hmmm . . . . .mostly downhill/flat maybe? With little or nor uphill climbs. That is awfully high. Especially when you factor in your reported speed. That's great mileage, however attained!

I drive a 4.6 sedan. On trip to Wi. from Ia. driving between 80-85mph I got a reading of 30mpg.

As usual Mark, you quote half truths and misinformation, all of which you've scoured the nternet to find, to try and prove how superior you are to us. Of course everything to see on the internet is true, I've seen teh comercials.

No where in the article you provided is there any information to support your last 4 post, saying that Hyundai changed the formula for thir own gain, which is basically what you posted.

And as you said, you have no Dog in this fight as you have an '09, so why do you continue to present half truths and not post the full article, other than to show your superiorty?

Have Fun, and keep searching the internet, the truth is in there somewhere.

The quote about changing the testing methodology came directly from Hyundai. I didn't think anything of it, until you claimed that the EPA is the one that changed it, and I already have provided documentation that it was Hyundai who changed their testing methodology. I do agree that Hyundai thought they were within the rules even after they changed it.

Here is a direct quote from a Hyundai technical person in Korea about what happened:

'What we did is we – because of the complexity of this test, we need to improve the efficiency of the test results, so we have to reduce the repeated number of tests and we also have to reduce the test-to-test variation. In order to achieve this test efficiency, we (added a) few more steps and (processes), which is different from what EPA has generally recommended, so that’s where this errors – procedure errors happened."

The fact that I reported what I read has nothing to do with superiority. However, repeatedly posting on this forum that you will not accept the compensation from Hyundai for their error smacks to me of the same kind of thing you (falsely) accuse me of.

I haven't said a word about the refund in this thread, only the one thread about the issue. Besides that, the EPA ESTIMATE for my 2012 R Spec only changed the combined value by 1 MPG.
