  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Adding DLRs

I remember all the howls and yelling from Canadians at their government when the Canadian government forced you to go metric. After a year of duel English/Metric, and a year of all Metric, Canadians learned to love metric.

We're not as metric as our southern friends think we are, sadly. Metric is used for distances and car speeds. And gas. Mostly the things where the speedometers, road signs, and pumps make it near impossible to stick to imperial.

But outside of that?
- construction is all imperial
- real estate is usually measured imperial ("oh, the family room is 10x15 feet")
- people talk about their height in imperial except on their driver's licences, which require metric
- people's weight is always in pounds
- temperatures are mostly Celsius, though recently I've heard the occasional older folks still using F. And all cooking is done in F.
- tire pressures are PSI
etc.

The school curriculum is all metric, but somehow, in the real world, imperial measurement survives. Probably has a lot to do with the poor influence coming from south of the border...

Can you post a picture of the relay?

Im going to pick one of these relays up from my dealer this afternoon and see what happens. I will post later today if I still have a car or if it melted to the ground :D

Well.. on closer inspection of the fuse box there is no DRL circuit. So Im unsure where the relay would go. Can someone post a pic of the Canadian version? Im sure its the same as the US just unmarked.

On even closer inspection of the fuse box there is no wiring behind the DRL hook up so my guess is the US version does not have DRL capabilities whatsoever. :(

Today was a very blah day here in Central Florida. Decided to put my "Parking Lights" on vice using my headlights/foglights. After having them on for a while, I thought to myself that I've never really looked at them from outside the car, so I got out and looked. Not only is the orange "Parking Light" on but also the little white bulb that is located in the High Beam housing. (two bulbs in the high beam housing, the H7 and the small bulb). This small bulb is located in such a way that the housing reflects a lot of light. I was surprised how viewable that little lamp is, at least on a blah day like today. Don't know how well it can be seen in bright sunlight, but on a mixed sun/cloudy day, or an overcast day, that little bulb shows up great.

Should have read my 2/20 post above. Nothing but plastic in the fuze box at the DRL slot.

I like the look of the orange sidelight on too...really makes the car stand out. I'd prefer a system like that for DRL's...rather than running the headlight at a lower voltage, like in Canada. The BMW "angle eyes" and Audi "brow" DRL's are very nice looking too. The new Equus looks to have something like that.

According to what I read (although I don't quite understand why from a technical view) DRLs use additional fuel in cars (however small the amount), and that is one reason why they never got adopted in US or Europe.

Yes, DRLs do use a small amount of fuel. DRL has been mandatory in Europe for years and by 2013 in Europe it will be the law. Chrysler's DRL utilizes the high beam headlights @ 60% brightness. Toyota's Tundra uses the turn signal amber bulbs in the turn signal mode (xtra brightness) but burn out quickly because they are really bright, LED DRLs use almost no electricity and last the lifetime of the vehicle. On some models the DRL is driver-selectible so you can turn them off and on at will. The 2011 Sonata comes with dedicated DRL right from the factory and are activated on U.S. vehicles (yes!!) which leads me to believe that all future Hyundais, included the refreshed 2011 Genesis will have DRLs. The service manager at my Hyundai dealership said there have been so many inquiries on DRL in the past several years that he had to stress his concern with corporate. I believe Hyundai is one of the last manufacturer in the U.S. not to offer them until now with the Sonata. The 2011 Azera has LED rings around the headlights but I cannot confirm if these will double as DRL.

It's my understanding that in Canada DRLS are required. Anyone live in Canada on here that would like to gather some information regarding DRLS? Maybe purchasing a kit to add to our cars? I tried searching KDM sites to see if there is anything but have come up with nothing.

DRLs on the Genesis I cannot comment on as I bought mine in Canada. My previous vehicle, a Lexus, I imported from the US, and the dealer turned the DRLs on by changing the programming from the computer interface, it took all of 2 minutes, and $89.

There are other threads which discuss this in detail (a Canadian owner determined what extra parts were needed). Sounded like a little too much trouble to do it (but search the forum and read it for yourself).
