  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Advice needed please: Steering wheel leather finish, uneven wear; how to fix?

I have a 2015 5.0 Tech Pkg (not the Ultimate); w/ 24K miles on it. Am the orig owner.

Feels like my steering wheel leather finish is wearing unevenly (pics attached), both color and texture.

I can understand some areas may get much more touch than others; and I tried using Meguiar's Leather cleaner/conditioner, but not too happy with the results yet. Also, before i used the Meguiar's, I used to feel a "fuzz" type texture on the leadher on some parts of the wheel (perhaps where it gets the most touch); but the Meguiar's did address that very well.

Am curious if/how other members have come across, and/or addressed similar issues?

Many thanks

Do not use any harsh cleaners or chemicals on the leather surface. To clean the leather, use Lexol Leather cleaner, and then use copious amounts of Lexol Leather Conditioner.

Had the same issue with the 2015 I just bought.
The dye guy (detailer) that works at the local dealers re-dyed the worn areas.
Looks as good as new. Took less than 20 minutes for him to repair it.

i always use a tiny bit on fantastik on a microfiber first, damp microfiber (to be sure no fantastik remains), dry w micro fiber, follow up with griots interior cleaner on a microfiber, dry, then as mark said, lexol time. if you do this monthly, the first few steps wont be needed. dont forget that a lot of what you seeing is hand salsa, not necessarily leather wear.

Hand salsa, LOL!
