  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I read that the new 2018 G80 has automatic emergency braking WITH pedestrian detection, but does my 2017 also have the "pedestrian detection" feature? I realize it has AEB but I don't see the PD mentioned in the manual where it specifically says AEB cannot detect "persons or animals" and think this was added to the 2018 model? Correct? Do you think it will brake if someone jumps in front of the car?

I noticed that when I am in parking lots moving slowly my 2017 G80 will detect people walking in front and rear of the car and alarms accordingly. If it does that in parking lots why not on the road? The radar and sonar systems are still the same on the road. Anyone else have any thoughts on this matter?

How would it know it is in a parking lot? I think that it might indeed have pedestrian detection but it was only until the G90 and the 2018 models that they figured out that they should include it in the branding. New lingo.

I realize it can detect people who are walking in front & behind you while you are "stopped" and beeps to warn you, but will it automatically "engage the brakes" if you're driving 25+ mph and someone crosses your path? That feature, I believe, is not available on the 2017 model.

The beeping when people walk in front of the car is just the parking sensors going off. You need to be closing on colliding with something at a pretty good pace for the AEB system to alarm, then the next step is auto braking which is very sudden. Don't try to test it but it does work pretty well in my experience.

When I first got my '15 sedan I was driving down a road where a bunch of cyclists were on the right hand shoulder. One of them suddenly weaved out a few feet over the line and my Genny slammed on the brakes and gave me all the warning bells. So while I can't say that it has a particular pedestrian detection feature, it sure picked that guy up.

I just think it needs to be something big and solid enough to reflect the radar beam. Perhaps a dog is too low to the ground for it to accurately detect.

True. Short people better watch out then 😂
