  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have used "High flow" replacement filters in other cars with mixed results. That said on this car it actually makes a difference you can feel and hear! The car feels more responsive in all modes and as a bonus the engine/drive train has more grunt to the sound under throttle- stock every where else. Totally impressed and well worth the low cost. Not sure I will even pursue a CAI system now unless I want added "whoosh" which I could get with atmospheric BOFs.
If you are on the fence of modding your car at least try this first as there is no penalty or risk of any warranty issues. I highly endorse.

Have you seen any articles comparing the drop-in AEM to a CAI open air system? I would be interested to see if they're comparable and put up similar HP gains, increased air flow, etc.

Sheer surface area a coned CAI will have more area so more flow. Plus the intake piping is usually increased compounding the increase. I think the drop ins claimed 5-10% and the CAI offerings usually double that but you have to take all that with a grain of salt. I will say if you are tuning you can take advantage of that but just reducing intake restriction without additional tinkering elsewhere I wouldn’t expect to see that. Plenty of guys on here and elsewhere run stick boxes and still pull incredible 0-60 times. Others just call them “noise makers” which can be a selling point by itself. They do look cool. Just watch for any of them that don’t seal out ambient air under the hood as that will kill any size increase in volume. Hot air less dense so larger pipes + hot air = stock pipes and cold air.

AFE Takeda intakes are the only real cold air intakes. They offer 30% increased airflow. I just installed it on my car and the box itself is significantly larger and the air opening for the conical filter is also huge compared to the old intake box. I can see why they can claim the numbers they do on their dyno results.

To me the question is why didn't Genesis just create a better intake? They could sell the car as a 400hp sports sedan that would sound more competitive to the German cars.

This is what I have in my wish list as the ones I would consider. I also like the idea of sealed or the vent hole can be opened for a little “whoosh” sound if you want. Do you like them? Is the rest of your car stock?

That's weird, I had no idea what the plugs were for and within minutes you replied on this post and someone replied on another post saying it's to give you more sound. Then again you're introducing hot air to the mix so you have to really want that sound.

I like them, my car is stock and it gives you enough that there's a difference. I wasn't expecting massive power gains like a JB4 so I'm happy with it.

The one thing I do like that I hadn't seen mentioned anywhere is that it lowers the pitch of the exhaust. Gives it a deeper sound that's really nice.

I'll say wait for a sale. I'm not trying to diminish what they've developed, but $600 for a cold air intake is a big ask. At $450 when they do their sales it's worth it.

Your comment on the exhaust sounds good. I posted originally that even the drop in filters gave the car a little more sound as well. Not sure how that works. Also look to see if your revs and mph change under normal driving. I’ve noticed the car does not downshift as often under regular load. So less devs = less fuel = better mph. Nothing scientific yet but it does seem to be getting a little better mileage now and with these cars every bit helps. I do have an IMR cat back on order and if I ever get it I am hoping the combination makes me smile. If not I may go for the CAI. Or IMR midpipes. This just never ends does it ?

For me the next steps is lowering and probably doing sway bars too. Then at some point lighter wheels and tires, but I like the look of the stock wheels so I'm not in a hurry outside of losing the weight.
