  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone, I am so excited with my new 2012 Genesis 3.8, loaded it up with both option package, and just received delivery of it yesterday.

Did anyone installed a K&N air filter in their Genesis sedan before?

Care to share your good or bad story. What kind of MPG you get after the replacement, did you notice any increase in HP, etc etc.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
IMHO it's a complete waste of money. The computer controls the air fuel mixture. Don't even go the "it lasts the life of the car" route, because for you to break even you would have to keep the car for 100k miles.

Completely agree TJ. Waste of dough.

If one of the reasons you bought the Genesis was because it was quiet inside, the K&N will make it a little louder. I had two K&N's on my 96 Mercedes SL500 and when I bought my 2004, decided the benefits did not equal the money and did not get new ones. IMHO.

I am not saying to get one, but the fact that the computer controls the air fuel mixture has nothing to do with it.

The computer measures the amout of air that goes into the engine and then dispenses the correct amount of fuel to go with that air. The more air you can get into your engine the more power it makes. Also since the engine is sucking in air through the filter, the better the filter, the less power is robbed by the filter.

So, a better filter can improve performance.. The question, is how much better is the K&N over stock..

Could even be worse then the OEM filter, as some reports have shown....Plus also the electronics on some cars just don't like them, and CEL may haunt some.

Indeed... Often the oil of these cleanable filters can foul the MAF and cause the CEL or worse..

Had K&N filters on my Motorcycle for several months. I fouled all 4 carbs with the oily solution. Was a great adventure learning how to tear down a carbs and clean them! My advice is JUST SAY NO! Save yourself money now and in the future!

I am currently running a K&N filter and noticed no increase in noise or power.

I didn't notice any MPG change after removing stock Micheling Energy Saver A/S and moving to Continental Extreme DWS all season. I wonder if that means I am getting better gas mileage since my previous car with DWSs was about 2-3mpg worse vs when I put Energy Saver's on before I sold it.

Either way, a filter is a filter. I don't see why you would need 100k to recoupe the cost. If it lasts you as long as 2 filters I think you are already ahead.

Either way, was not overly impressed with the stock filter, sort of small and light. Now my IQAIR unit...there's some serious filters there!
