  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Asking 'cause I'm aware but don't really know.

I've seen the YouTube vids of the various exhaust and they sound mean, awesome, etc.
I already know I wouldn't mind the dreaded drone to a certain degree as so thats not a issue.

My big question is this.

If I go ahead with a catback system am I going to lose driveability and stop light to stop light performance?

Best bang for the buck?

Should I stay stock?

Are any systems generating more torque and HP?

At times I do admit, I love to mash the fly by wire to the stops.

All opinions are welcome here.

There will be no loss of low-end torque with any after market exhaust. I know this from personal experience with a 2011 Magnaflow that I later modified with Dynomax VTs to eliminate drone.

Be sure to "reboot" your ECU after installation so that the ECU can "relearn" the motor with the new exhaust.

Doubt you would lose any if you leave the stock converters in...most likely would if you replace from the headers back.

You might lose a tad on "paper" from a cat-back system but doubt it would be noticeable.

I recently removed my secondary cat deletes and kept the Magnaflow catback on and noticed a big drop in drone. With the cat deletes the drone got to me especially -1500 rpms.

I think the catback system from magnaflow is good for 12-15hp and removing the secondary cat deletes is good for 6hp. Probably similar gains in torque. Your stop light to stop light should be better as the hp and torque curves increase.

But does the power band dip anywhere else? Usually is the case. Where you gain max power, marginal losses are to be had at different RPMs.

Back to the "no free lunch", right? :D

I remember looking at the dyno runs and the HP/torque curves increased along the entire curve, never dipping below where stock was. It was also a pretty linear gain or should I say parallel?

Looks like I was wrong on the HP and torque gains for the 5.0 - 14hp and 7tq for just the cat deletes. So with both the cat deletes and magnaflows you are probably pushing about 460hp.

Are there any dyno charts available?

That's not enough power to make a noticeable enough of a difference were you could actually feel it. From a performance stand point, for most cars a catback tends to be a starter mod that can do a little bit when combined with other mods, but by itself is hardly more than just a noise maker.

+1

Only modified my exhaust for the beautiful sound and to change out the exhaust tips.

Legend has it than one cannot feel by seat-pants-dyno a performance gain of less than 10%.
Having written this I can testify to my own experience with cat-deletes (4.6, 5.0, & 3.8) and Magnaflow (4.6). I felt a performance increase with both mods. My sense is that the OEM exhaust system is way undersized for the 5.0, and responds nicely to just about any mod.
Cynics will respond that cat-backs are just noise makers, but I wonder if this is a response from speculation or from actual experience?
By the way, the Motorsports Authority secondary cat deletes fit all models of Genesis sedans - 4.6, 5.0 and 3.8. I know this to be true simply because I have installed the cat deletes on four Genesis sedans.

I ask again, are there any dyno graphs out there that we can see?

Fatal - completely disagree with you here. We checked the numbers and it's about 30hp with the magnaflow and cat deletes. I definitely felt a difference.

Agree but no formal dyno for me either.
I just love that sound at startup and when I go WOT. Well worth the price of admission.

Most people do not even know this happens.

I'm far too familiar... ;)

Hello - does anyone know where to get the MS Authority cat deletes/downpipes? I tried the links as well as google, but it seems like they changed names or are no longer around? The link gives a 404 error - website cannot be found.

I'm very interested in this mod, as I will eventually be installing a custom tuned exhaust. Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes I got mine from them about a week ago for my rspec 5.0L ( sales@msauthority.com) ask for Martin cost 110.00 shipped . what I'm doing is replacing my cats with the test pipes cutting them and then installing my low-profile oval exhaust cutouts right there and when I'm finished if I want to remove and replace the cats back they'll be no problem. DMH cut outs are by far the best I had bolth ( DMH & QTP) in my hands qtp are really not ovel , plus DMH 4 year warentee. I did 2 weeks of research save your time . Just go with the test pipe & cut outs.
