  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all, being used to a 5" Garmin 1450, (and other older ones) I was very disappointed in the touch screen NAV on my recently purchased 2013 Premium Genesis.

I understand that Version 7 is now available for a healthy price, but even if the roads are updated, I doubt that Mapnsoft has improved or added the other features that even a low end Garmin (or other make) have, plus free updates once or twice a year.

I see that Garmin has a 6" diagonal 66LM or a whopping 7" 2757LM. As much as I dislike sticking a GPS to the windshield, I may just do that.

My question to anyone else who uses an aftermarket GPS, how have you mounted the unit?
Does the friction bean bag type mount really stay put or does it tend to move around on the dash?
Has anyone found a way of mounting it low on the console so it's still safe to use?
Will a suction cup mount hold a 7" unit to the windshield without continually falling off?

Any and all input is appreciated. ....... RonJ

I have a Garmin bean bag mount. When I use it, I place it on the dash a little to the right of the hump for the instrument cluster. I have a 4" Garmin, as anything else might be a little too large in that position and might block your view out the windshield. Since the GPS would be closer to you in that position compared to an OEM in the center of the dash, I personally think 4" is large enough.

When I am not using the bean-bag mounted GPS, I place it on the passenger seat since I usually drive alone. I place a black bath towel over it (I have black interior) so that no one can see it when the car is parked (to deter theft). Some states do not allow mounting on the windshield itself due to obstruction of your view.

have you looked at those sticky pad things -- they've worked for me -- just don't leave them on the dash in direct sunlight when parked,

this one looks like the kind I got from Hyundai :

pretty cheap, too !!

Seems like a major limitation. In reading the customer comments on Amazon, it looks it ruined the dash for some people who live in hot climates.

I'm not fussy on "sticking" something to the dash.
