Aggressive Braking - Vibration

Although I've had my 2105 Genesis for a few months, I had never taken a good long road trip on Interstate highways until last week during which I was able get comfortable with my Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and Lane Assist system.

However, one issue that I encountered was never noticed when driving around town and at relatively low speeds.

When aggressively applying brakes at highway speeds (for exits, or other cars cutting in, or slowing traffic ahead) the car began vibrating as if seriously out of balance tires. It was not ABS because the pavement was dry and there was never any possibility of skidding. And it didn't feel like ABS I've experienced in other cars which was a high frequency chatter. I believe that I was using the SCC in all the situations (about three) but not sure.

It didn't feel like the brakes themselves were pulsing, just that the front end was vibrating heavily.

I'll be mentioning this on my next service visit but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they found to be the problem.

resurfacing the rotors should help. that is odd on a car that new.

Warped rotors are caused by lug nuts not being tightened equally. If the torque on the lug nuts is not equal, the heat from braking can cause warped rotors.

This is from Bendix. I actually had that problem on a vehicle many years ago. When i replaced the rotors, I hand torqued all lug nuts. Never had another problem for an additional 60k miles.

If I have the vehicle serviced elsewhere, I loosen each lug nut and retorque. As long as you do not drive too far on incorrectly torqued lug nuts, you will be fine. I always retorque within 25 miles.

Discount Tire is the only shop I have seen that properly torques lug nuts.

The rotors on my 5.0 didn't take too kindly to resurfacing - just pick up some new ones. They're not horribly expensive.

One other possibility is that your OEM ceramic pads cracked under high heat. (I left my car with some knuckleheads at the dealership and they over-torqued my lug nuts in the process of rotating the tires.) When you brake going slowly, it won't shake, only when you're slowing down from highway speeds. I had my rotors checked and they weren't warped badly, although there were a few high spots from pad material deposited on the disks. I'm replacing the front pads and discs and will take a pic of the pads this weekend...
