Not sure how else to describe this in the subject line - so let me try to better explain here in the post - and see if anyone else experiences similar?
2 weeks in on my 15 G2 V6 AWD Ultimate... loved every mile (1500) so far). Has really helped to bring some enjoyment back into driving and especially Chicagoland commuting.
I am coming out of an 11 Azera Limited. Still a very nice car for it's time, and more on the touring sedan side, whereas the G2 is almost a sport-touring sedan.
Anyhow - the Azera had a 6 speed trans and I usually set the cruise on my commute for 70 to 72. Chicagoland traffic being what it is - I am often defeating the cruise while people figure out how to go together in straight, parallel lines - and then I hit "resume" - going back to 70ish from 58-65. The Azera would have a very relaxed cruise control in general - even if I hit "resume" at 35 - it would smoothly accelerate all the way to 72 just as if you were being nice and gradual about it. Nice and easy.
In the G2, even in ECO mode - if I am 5mph below the cruise set point it ALWAYS drops a gear - and sometimes 2. It then _firmly_ accelerates with RPMs over 3k and a nice exhaust note back up to the cruise set speed. Reminds me a lot of how the GM cruise controls from the early 90's would behave & race you back up to cruise speed.
From a -5mph point - I don't think this is really necessary. I have even started to play with the paddles after hitting resume when I feel it getting ready to kick down (there is a very brief but noticeable lull on the resume in top gear while it thinks about a gear selection). I pop it back into 8th and then it is smooth and easy the rest of the way back to the set point.
Now - while I understand the nature of the 8 speed is to have shorter shift points and consequently be more economical - I really don't need it to "race" from 65 back to 72 - especially when I am in ECO mode. It is noticeable enough where I always get quizzical looks from my passengers - as the car goes from nice and quiet to a noticeable growl from the exhaust - while we "touring" down the highway.
So... lots of explanation here, but I wanted to be clear on what I was experiencing - not so much because I think there is a problem with the car, but mostly because I am curious if anyone else has experienced similar. I would really love to have the smooth & easy acceleration from cruise that I had in my Azera & just do not see the need for the downshift. It is obvious the torque is there - otherwise I wouldn't be able to upshift it manually. In fact - I have been able to upshift and accelerate smoothly all the way from about 58 or so. I really don't need it to pull so hard to get back to cruising speed.
Anyone notice this aggressive behaviour in resuming their cruise?
Thanks!
