  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My A/C failed yesterday.

I noticed a clicking noise as I started the car in the garage.

After I made my first stop, the car was clicking much louder, then the sound changed to a clacking noise..... at that point the A/C failed.

There did not seem to be any loss in engine performance as I drove the car home.

It's going in the shop this morning.

What version (V6 or V8) are you driving? Also, how long have you had your vehicle? Keep us posted.

This is a V6, tech/Prem 9800 miles, aquired in October, 2008

Will update.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Apparently the compressor failed. They've ordered a replacement. At least I have a Genesis loaner :)

Good they found the issue. Sounds like it may be isolated and not widespread to rest of us. Hopefully! Glad you got a twin to drive around until your service is completed. Some others on this site haven't been so lucky to get a loaner! Thanks for the update and good luck.

OK, I have the car back. The tech determined that the compressor had seized (it was making an awful racket). The compressor has been replaced, and they washed the car before returning it to me.

All is good again.

It will be interesting to see if mine was a one-off.

So now that we are starting to enter the hot summer how is your experience with the air conditioner. I recently test drove a black Genesis with a Saddle interior that was left in the sun and it was about 88 degrees outside. I swear it must have taken 20 - 25 minutes to get anything cool out of the A/C. This was with the temperature on LOW for both sides of the car as well as in the rear seats. The fan was fairly high as well. To be honest I was pretty disappointed but I can't tell whether this was an isolated incident or not since I don't own one.

Well, I have a sapphire blue with black interior and live in South Carolina. Yesterday it was 92 and today was about the same. I've found the car to be pretty good at getting the vehicle to a tolerable temperature within 5 minutes or so, but takes a good bit longer to actually get comfortable. I certainly haven't experienced the issue of taking 20-25 minutes to even get cool.

I takes me about 15 minutes to get from my office to the highway on my commute home and I'm usually quite comfortable after the first few minutes, but the cooling really kicks in after about 10 minutes, you can feel the cold air at that point.

I find it tolerable, actually better than my wife's minivan, which of course has much more air volume to cool. My old Ford Ranger actually seemed to cool down a little faster, but it had less room to cool, and was a tan interior, not black. The black interior get's quite hot, I'm hoping a good tint job helps.

Mine car has the Cashmere (tan) interior; after sitting in the SoCal sun for a few hours (at work... outdoor parking lots only. Sucks) the interior temps are nowhere near as bad as my other car with a black-leather interior. The Genesis A/C blasts cool air within a few seconds, cold within a minute once I'm actually driving and get the engine RPMs above idle. The interior temps drop far faster than that black leather interior. I don't run the A/C on "AUTO" mode though; as somebody else posted in a different thread the A/C seems to take longer to get cold on AUTO.

The seat A/C helps a lot though I wish the seat back had more airflow. The seat bottom feels "wet" (like you're wearing a damp swimsuit... not exactly pleasant) but the backrest isn't as cool. I'd rather more cooling on my back, less on my rear.

Mine is Titanium Grey with black leather interior. I'm in the Charlotte NC area.

When the A/C was busted, it was very hot.... but it wasn't unpleasant with the sunroof and windows open rolling down the highway.

It's much better now the compressor has been replaced.

Anyway, the car does seem to cool down quickly.

Interesting. I ALWAYS leave mine on AUTO, 72 degrees. In a hot car, RECIRC stays on for about 2-3 minutes then, after car has cooled somewhat, turns itself off. Compared to my Passat, the time to "cool" is much faster.
Though I wish the fob could be programmed to lower windows from outside. That would help things.

My black/tan cools right down in "auto""recirc" mode. The other day it was 96 and the car sat in the sun for about 3 hours. The fan was down to a low speed within about 5 min. However I always use the rear screen and a front sun sheild when parked. I have also tried to cool it down quicker by fliping up the sun roof but it seems to be the same. I had a black/black BMW and using the sun roof cut the cool down time by about 50%!!

"Auto" + rolling down the windows to vent the hot air seems to do the best job, but it's noisy. Auto seems to do everything, including running the blower at top speed (loud!), to get to the programmed temperature as quickly as possible. To do this manually would mean dropping the temp to Low, turning recirc on, and turning the fan up. So, the choice is noisy vs. a lot of manual tweaking.

I'm finding that once Auto does get the car cool, I have to turn off Auto or my hands and face freeze (seems to run cold air at low speed rather than maintaining temp at higher speed). It would be nice if I could switch to front and floor venting without it canceling the ACC.
