Air Conditioning Performance

OH THANK GOD! I thought it was only my genesis doing that....i didn't have any problems like this on my previous cars.

Also my window tint is like 15% all around....not much help. :confused:
 
I am in the process of getting a new car and have been considering a 2013 G 3.8 or 2013 Lexus GS or Chrysler 300c, If the Genesis, which is my number one choice at present, has an AC problem, I wouldn't even consider it anymore. We live in the Palm Springs area and it was 122 on Wednesday and 117 yesterday and cooled down today to 107. If AC is a problem on this car it looks like it's time to start checking out the Lexus or Chrysler as our next car and not the Genesis. I presently drive a 2011 CTS and even at 122 degrees it was blowing super cold air and I had to turn down my cooled seats from hi to low after a bit. I really hope that this is a very miniscule minority of G's that have this problem not the other way around, that the ones that properly blow cold air in any temp are the minority.
 
my 2013 r-spec works well.
I live in FL so good AC is a must.
i will open the windows to dump the initial heat after sitting in the sun for a few hours.
after that, its on auto 68F with the seat cooling on.
blows cold after a few seconds like any other car I have had.

only "thing" i see is that it seems to take approx 10 sec from engine start until the AC fan is blowing. every other car i have had the fan was on almost as soon as the engine starts. I think it is part of the automatic system checking the temp and setting itself.
I can manually turn it on sooner.

as far as remote start is concerned, i think it is only factory standard on the units that have Bluelink. I have it in mine, but havent used it once.
dont see enough value in the bluelink to renew the service after the trial expires.
 
I live in northern Alabama. We get hot and humid quite often and have not had problems with my A/C blowing cold enough and I'm very hot-natured and want it cold, so I'd be one to complain on this one.
 
My A/C is acceptable but not excellent. Every other car I owned had a stronger a/c.
 
I had the opportunity to ride around the Memphis area last Friday in a 2013 Mercedes with the temp in the low 90's. The A/C was plenty cold. When I got back in my Genny I paid close attention to the A/C and I believe it was just as cold as the Mercedes, at least out on the highway. Where I did notice a substantial difference was sitting at traffic lights at idle. Here the Genny blew noticeably warmer, even on recirculate. The Mercedes seemed to me to blow cold both on the freeway and at idle. I wonder why the difference???
 
My 2009 V8/Tech takes just a few seconds to get cool air from the A/C after being parked in the sun for a while. It doesn't get really cold though until the vehicle is moving at 20+ MPH. Once cold, it stays cold though even when idling for several minutes. I don't use the AUTO mode; I just hit the A/C button, set the vents to bi-level (face & foot so the seat cooling works better), and run the fan to 50% to 70% speed. I'll use Recirculate too once it's been running for a minute or so. As a test, I've tried revving the engine to 2000 - 2500 RPM while parked just to see if the A/C will get cooler temps with engine speeds typical of driving... nope. It seems to require airflow from driving to actually get cooling properly.

Cars today typically use electric motors to power engine radiator and A/C condensers (radiators at front of car) reducing "parasitic" horsepower losses on the engine compared to the old style belt-driven fans. Since the Genesis sedans sometimes have issues getting the A/C temp down quickly I'd bet on an undersized fan or fans. They're evidently big enough to handle engine cooling needs (their primary purpose) in hot weather combined with stop-n-go driving (the worst for cooling systems) since I haven't seen a history of complaints about engine overheating on this forum.

While I wouldn't mind the A/C reaching cold temps more quickly I don't think the system is deficient. Passengers have complimented the A/C performance; it also cools the interior quicker than my other cars that have smaller interiors.

I live in the Phoenix area and, as you can tell from all the news coverage, it has been a very hot start to the summer season. Even with the extreme temps though the Genny A/C rarely runs above mid-setting. We do have tint on the windows and that helps but comparing the Genny to all the other cars we've owned the A/C doesn't seem to be a problem.

You might have your system checked just to be sure.

Also, for everybody no matter where you live, it is recommended that you operate your A/C compressor for a minimum of five minutes per month even in cold weather to keep the seals from drying out.

Ditto: Vegas is usually four to five degrees cooler than Phoenix, but even at 115 plus, my A/C has been working very well cooling the cabin in a few minutes.
