  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello Everyone,

I've been the proud owner of a 4.6 w/ Tech Package for about two weeks now. Everything has been wonderful, but I think my AC might be a bit wonky. How cold does your AC get for you guys? I usually kept mine around 70-72. However today I had the car sitting out in the sun for awhile and it was ridiculously hot inside. After the car had been running for a few minutes I changed the AC down to low and I couldn't feel a difference at all. I would expect the AC at the temperature to be extremely cold! This was with the recycled air button on. I didn't feel any difference turning it off or using the circle A button. I know in my Sonata it would get nice and cold with the temp turned down all the way.

So does your AC get really cold? If so I guess there's something wrong with mine and I'll have the dealer look at it. Just wanted a general idea. Thanks.

Lots of recent discussion on this:

My observations:

  • Auto mode is pretty wonky and seems to have a mind of it's own (fan speed, especially)
  • You need to take as many steps to reduce the heat buildup to begin with (shades, tinting, cracked windows, parking in the shade)
  • Opening the windows for a minute or two to dump heat and let cooler air in helps while the A/C is coming up to speed
  • A/C is slow to start, but having recycle on definitely speeds the cooling
  • For obvious reasons, if you're trying to get the temp down fast and cold, you'll need to set the desired temp to "Low" until it gets cold enough. Otherwise, it's a slower ramp down to the temp.
  • Circle A (air quality management) doesn't affect the A/C at all whether on or off
  • You need to make sure the back air vents are not set to warm
  • Once the heat buildup is gone, the car can get plenty cold, especially if the vents are pointed at you

[*]Circle A (air quality management) doesn't affect the A/C at all whether on or off

dataguy's list is accurate with one HUGE exception, IMO.

For me, the Circle A kills the cool down time. It can cycle the fan speed and contiues to switch between outside and inside air when it should be blowing balls-out until it reaches the desired temp.

I'll certainly accept that. I haven't noticed any difference personally, but it definitely doesn't help to have it on. So the best bet is to manually recirc and make sure the Circle A is off until the cabin cools down.

Thanks for the help guys. The problem was even with the AC running 20+ minutes it would never actually get cold, even when put down to low. I remember test driving a black V8 at the dealership and the AC was so cold at the time that I had to turn it up. It was blowing on my hands and absolutely freezing. My car has never even gotten close to that.

The AC would make the car bearable after being in the garage, but it just wouldn't cool down if the car had been sitting outside. I decided to take it to the dealer to get looked at, so I'm looking forward to hearing what they have to say today. If they find nothing wrong I'm going to be incredibly disappointed, and frankly I would find it unacceptable. For a car like the Genesis you would think it would have top notch air conditioning.

Strange. It sounds like you need a trip to the dealer.

Turns out the AC Compressor was leaking. I'm actually thankful that something was wrong instead of me not being content with the AC. Unfortunately getting it fixed hasn't been that great. I dropped it off last Friday, where they called and said they had to order the part for Monday. Monday rolls around and THEN then tell me that it's on backorder. Lovely. Hopefully I should get it back any day now. Thanks for your help guys.
