  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Note the use of plura as there are two air filters. The common most filter is the large flat filter in the airbox. This filter is used by all first generation Equus and Genesis - even the V6. Its part number is 28113-3M100. K&N makes a replacement for this filter.

The second filter is much smaller and yet very important. It fits just inside the top of the radiator, and provides a direct airflow into the intake manifold. It is unique to the Equus and all 5.0 liter Genesis. This filter is often overlooked by dealers doing routine service and may not be in stock. Its part number is 28113-3M500. K&N does not have a replacement/equivalent for this filter. This filter is "protected" by a removable flap that is designed to open only at wide open throttle. This flap is easily removed, but if you do so then change the filter more often.

I plan on contacting K&N to see if they will make a replacement for this small filter. If not I will "kit-bash" a K&N filter element into the OEM filter frame. More on this later.

I got a 2014 Equus. Previous owner said, "I had everything done at the dealer". I know then I had to look it over. See picture of dirty filter. The main engine air filter, the cabin filter were both clean. The owners manual calls this little filter the chamber filter. Had to order it at the dealer, see picture of the box. Replacing it is definitely DIY...

My manual refers to the second filter as the "chamber air cleaner".

I replaced mine with a Premium Guard #PA99255.

RockAuto has two different brand filter equivalents of the 28113-3M500, each less than $10.

Concerning the main air filer for a 2016 Equus, Amazon has multiple replacement filters available that FIT POORLY. The problem is that the base isn't stepped or notched like the original, so beware.
