Air Horns for 2 Reasons

Now i had installed air horns about 2 months ago that was one of the first things i did as i wanted people to hear me when i blew my horn because drivers in NYC are crazy opps i mean CRAZY when it comes to cutting you off or just plain driving , but anyway back to this thread lol , i recently found out that if u misplaced your genesis in a parking lot & tried to locate it by pressing the locate button on your remote you might as well just call the police to help you find it because the horn to locate your genesis is no louder than my sons horn on his bicycle , how could they think it would help u find it, so what i did was disconnect that silly little horn and wired it up to my air horns which now i can not only locate my car but the other day while sitting in red lobsters near the window of course so i could look out at my baby & see everyone drooling over that nice looking blue pearl genesis , some people were getting to close & when i hit that locate button on the remote they back the hell up & i guess they thought they set off the alarm , but my intentions were satisfied !!!

I hooked up Masarti air horns to a 1968 Corvette when I lived in Los Angeles and yes people paid attention. They thought they were going to get run over by a train. One day I got stopped in a safety check by California Highway Patrol. He went thrugh the process of checking my wipers, brake lights etc. When he got to the horn I tried to barely tap the horn so he wouldn't s..t his pants. It barely made any noise so he asked me to hold it down. He then said "What the hell is that?" He made me disconnect it on the spot.

Since you are a cop I guess you can get away with it at least in NYC.

well 2 be honest with u we dont look for air horns on cars in NYC we think if u dont have em your crazy 75% of the people driving in NYC arent from this country and barely got their license (paid someone under the table more than likely) the other 15% are way over the age limit & should surrender their license (they do 30 in a 50mph zone if that much) & the other 10% of us just have to watch out for everyone else, now if u had those trains horns with the air compressor than i could understand

I lived in Manhattan for almost 20 years. There were very few times that I could do 20 mph because of traffic congestion. I don't know for sure, cars at that time didn't tell you what your average speed was but I wouldn't be surprised if my average speed in Manhattan was under 5 mph. Maybe air horns would have helped clear a path. My work car had a red light and siren but I couldn't use them just because I was stuck in traffic. Needed to be an actual emergency. Also, they didn't give me a Bureau car until I had eighteen years of seniority. For the first eighteen years I took the subway. That reminds me. I miss the smell of urine. For those who haven't been there, that's what NYC subways smell like, one giant toilet.

well since i havent been on a train in years i really couldnt speak on the smell but i know they have come along way in cleaning it up and making it more presentable

From what I see on TV there are cops with automatic weapons on the trains now. So maybe it doesn't have the same wonderful smell.

The one thing I've noticed with Hyundai is that the horn is soooo freakin' weak! My Oldsmobile has a loud ass horn and I need something better for the Genesis.

Do you think the above will work? Also, does anyone know where the horn is under the hood and if it is accessible?

The Gennie horn sounds okay to me . . . but that's in comparison with my husband's '90 Nissan 300ZX twin turbo (on its way to becoming a classic, IMHO). He's tweaked the innards so it's putting out over 400 hp at the rear wheels, but the horn is a miserable bleat. It's embarrassing.

I was thinking one day of a replacement horn. Train horn actually 150 decibles and more is possible. Would have a switch to switch from factory horn and new horn.

Need small built in compressor and air tank.

The horn in my 15 year old Lexus LS is crazy loud. The one in the Genesis is terrible. These look just like the ones I have in the lexus and are made for the Genesis.

Do you have any idea what Low/High is? I wonder how hard it would be to swap out the old and put the new in. I have a feeling the horn is tucked away somewhere....

I believe it's the tone, or the pitch of the sound. I looked for the horns this morning in the garage, and there is so much plastic covering eveything I couldn't see where they were. Having done this in my old Maxima, it simply bolts on with one screw and the electric plugs into the back of them and you're done. I'm thinking it will take more time to remove all the plastic covers then it will to install the horns.
Also I sat in the car and pressed the horn, seemed ok. Then I got outside and pressed the horn with a flashlight, and it's loud. The genesis' insulated cabin has a lot to do with keeping the sound out. Maybe I'll take the thing apart and look for the horns this weekend. I;ll send you some pics, if I don't get lazy.

Agreed. Genesis horn is on par with other cars, but insulated cabin is much quieter. I realize this every time I open the sunroof or window while driving.

I guess it all depends on your ears. I do know though, that if a Cadillac pulled up next to the Genesis and had a "Horn off" the Caddy would win. When I honk my horn, I want to be heard.

Something to consider - way back in the day with motorcycles a couple of groups did some studies on air horns on bikes and discovered they were actually LESS effective. Their best hypothesis is that when people hear an air horn they look for a large truck and don't "see" the motorcycle since their brain is looking for a truck.

Obviously a genesis is larger than a motorcycle, but figured I would toss in that detail.
