"Airbag sensor light" potentially preventing inspection. Genesis 4.6, driver's seat. There is a warning light on that pertains to airbags and a mechanic tells me it's one referable to the passenger seat. He said it's cheaper just to buy a new seat or used seat and swap it out, rather than start or try to diagnose it.

This is probably a pretty unusual problem, so I'm not expecting much on the form, but I did find some 2011-2014 seats at only $200 on eBay. Who would be able to answer the question of whether my late 2009, in some ways "2010" Genesis would accept these?

Maybe it's easier for him to throw parts at it than to diagnose it, but that is just silly. If it's like the weight sensor on my 2011 Sonata, there isn't much to diagnosing it or replacing it.

Talk to a trim shop that does interior upholstery and seat cover repair. There should be a pressure switch in the bottom cushion somewhere so I would think trim shops will have seen these pressure switches before. I’ve had my front seat out before and there were two plugs I had to unplug. A larger plug that I think works all the seat functions and a smaller plug that my hunch is was the seat sensor connection. A good mechanic should be able to ohm out the pressure switch connector to verify function. The pressure switch may not be available for replacement by itself and the dealer will not bypass it. As an owner, it could be bypassed if one was comfortable doing such so it thinks it’s closed and should turn off any dash lights. The switch should be a normally open switch that under weight will close and tell the car the seat is occupied.
