  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Year
2010
Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
{I already have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis 4.6}

I'm ready to buy either a G80 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD or a G90 non-supercharged. (My wife wants one more round of test drives)

I have 3 questions I would appreciate help with:

1) Since I will probably end up signing a factory order to get the colors and configuration I want, has there been a firm, reliable announcement yet about any feature additions/deletions/changes between the 2023 and the 2024 years for the G80? Does anyone know the cut off to get an order processed as a 2023 vs. 2024 for the G80?

2) Similarly, has there been any reliable, authoritative announcement about feature additions/deletions/changes between 2023 and 2024 for the G90? Does anyone know the cutoff date to factory order a 2023 for the G90?

3) How does the invoice cost my dealer pays compare with the MSRP? Ignoring promotions that might expire or be announced, what sort of "holdback" or advertising allowance money affects his true, actual cost? I get the sense that it's common to discount G90s a bit more than G80s - is that your experience? I recognize that we are still in a COVID distorted market, and I realize that my dealer has to pay staff and keep the lights on...I just want to get a sense of what the limits are on pricing on his side of the table, so I can have realistic expectations.

Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to offer insight about any of this.

According to Carsdirect.com, for a G80 sport prestige the dealer cost is $70,403 against an MRSP of $74,045.

Thank you! I ended up signing a buyer's order at (MSPR-1,000). I'm happy, and I recognize that they have to keep the showroom lights on.

Considering the market recently, that is a decent deal. Let us know how you like it once in the driver's seat.

The devil is in the details. What does MSPR-1,000 mean with regard to dealer add-ons? Will they try to make back that $1,000 with a lot of extras you have to take if you want the deal?

You can bet they will try. My car bought last May had the Dealer Protection Package for $1995. In the end, the salesman had the printout in front of me. Expecting a hassle, I said increase the trade by 2k and wipe that off and we have a deal. He came back with it. I did like that the windows were tinted, I'd do that anyway down here.

I made out with the finance too. I was going to pay cash and it would have been a PITA to get a check from the bank in CT but they offered a $700 bonus for financing so I did. Finance guy said to make about 6 payments but make the first a big one. First payment was 75%, then 3 more. Ended up paying $68 in interest to save 700.

In a lot of cases they will make more money in the finance room when your doing the paperwork than they will on the car. I tell the guy straight off, I an not interested in any of that crap. I will take my chances.
