  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On the road today, I came across a Genesis Sedan / G80 (not sure of year as other Genesis was in oncoming traffic) but I swear it had Amber DRLs (the LED’s, not the bulbs that are a challenge on the 2015s). Looked pretty sharp. This is the first instance I have seen of this. Is this a mod that can be made? My searches on here and other places have not turned up any information.

Found it! Took some digging.

White when driving, amber when the 4 way flashers are on. Amber for turn signal, then back to white.

my friend owns a 2016 and his daytime runners are always amber.
Right, 2015/16 lights are not the LED strips in later years that change depending on use. The video shown is a 2018.

In this, at 15:40 they flash amber - but they are white as DRL at another point in the video.

In this at 1:20 they are amber as well

Amber, in these instances, seems to be for locking. These are also both Sport models. EdP, found the 5.0 instance.

I'm a bit confused as there's conflicting info in this thread. Which one is it?

Scenario 1
In the 2016: DRLs are always amber.
In the 2018: DRLs are amber or white.

Or is it the other way around?

Scenario 2
In the 2016: DRLs are always white.
In the 2018: DRLs are amber or white.

2018 DRL is white as a DRL but changes to amber when used as a turn signal or flasher. If you put on turn signal, blinker is amber but other side remains white. Put flashers on and both are amber.

2015 was always amber and 99% sure the 2016 is the same. Perhaps a 16 owner can confirm.

On my 16 ultimate...DRL's are white....turn signal blinks amber(drl on that side stays on/white) other side white...Emergency flashers blink amber(both drl's white/on when flashing)..this all happens in the same way whether I have the headlights on or not

We have ourselves a little mystery here......

1. It sounds like there was a change in DRL LED color from '15 (always amber) to '16.
2. And/or perhaps the '16 Non-Ultimate Trim is amber only.
3. And/or perhaps the '16 Ultimate Trim has the ability to change DRL LED's between white and amber depending on use scenario (like the MY20 video posted).
4. And/or perhaps bigpapainscotia's friend has a Non-Ultimate MY16 or MY15, or that he only saw it while it was in turn signal/emergency mode.
5. And/or perhaps OP is correct in that a mod exists somewhere.

So it seems comp625....I purchased mine used...prior owner very forthcoming during our transaction. So I would have thought he would have mentioned a mod if he had it done somewhere along the line. Don't think this was the case though, just my gut feeling.

2016 has white LED DRLs, separate from the amber incandescent turn bulbs. The 2015s had the amber incandescent bulbs that acted as the DRL and turns (dual filament) and the white LED strip would come on with the headlights.

There should not be a difference in the 2016 DRL strip colors across the trim levels. They should all be white.

Well I did say 99%. Take the word of the 16 owners, I had a 15. While pretty much the same there is always that slight difference.

So the OP must have seen '15 then since he was referencing amber DRLs. Mystery solved?

There are lot of mods for the 2016 Genesis DH in Korea such as replacing gear knob to different style, changing the appearance of the car bumper to G80 Sports, or mods of turning signal light being amber in the daylight led strip when dark. However this is USA and I cannot find auto shops that are able to do all these things.

In the Genesis group over on Facebook Genesis Owners people are reporting a few different configurations relating to lighting set ups. Just FYI.

That bottom image is clearly the parking lights not the DRLs. They're not even in full bright mode. The top image looks like someone repinned the 2018 harness to make the ambers the parking lights.
