  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So like the title says my ambient temp reading was ranging from 9 to 91 degrees today. It was cold today like high teens. Can any1 help me out with these questions.
1. Is my sensor fried?
2. Where is the sensor.
3. Will this effect my climate controls inside? It felt like it was blowing cold air when the temp reading went up.

1. It could be the sensor, the module that reads the sensor, or the wiring in between the two.
2. The 2018 G80 service manual shows the ambient temperature sensor as being inside the driver's side view mirror. As such, it doesn't look like it is separately replaceable.
3. I would expect that it would cause confusion with the automatic climate controls.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm really hoping it was a hiccup. It started to act up after a car wash

The most likely cause is the harness inside the mirror hinge is beginning to fray and got wet. The sensor is part of the mirror housing and is replaced as a complete unit with the mirror.

so bc of the snow I didn't go to work the other day. I got in the car today and the temp reading was spot on and didn't fluctuate. ill keep a eye on it for the next couple of days,.

quick update. It started to act up again. I had the defrosters on but when i adjusted the heat to blow out the vents it dropped closer to the actual temp. Is there a sensor near the window that might be affected by this? Has anyone else noticed this before?

Did you have the rear defroster on too? That would turn on the defrosters in the mirrors.

I did when the car was warming up, but the rear defroster was off when it started acting up.

So it shot up to 130 today on my way outta work. I really dont care but its annoying having luke warm air being blowing at you then when the gauge drops to 50 having the sun blown in your face. Can I maybe get to the wires some how? Even with all the auto temp stuff off (auto defrost etc) it still does it.

This thread gives some detail on taking the mirror apart.
