  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings esteemed forum. Soon to acquire my first Genesis (and Hyundai for that matter), a 2013 3.8 V6 with 53,300 "meticulously maintained miles" according to its first and current caretaker—who also happens be family, so I consider the source trustworthy. Once in its new home, it will receive a prow-to-stern checkup at a local shop catering to makes and models of Far Eastern origins.

Speaking of makes and models, from a sun-bleached '80 Pinto to '19 MINI Cooper three-pot, I've had the pleasure of driving 10 different makers and 13 different models, with the Genesis bringing the tally to 11/14 respectively. Each one has a story. Each a special place. All equally loved for their own merits and reasons, and even occasional mishaps. I expect the Genesis to deliver on all of those—and will enjoy every mile. (Now I just need to get used to an automatic, my first in 36 years of driving.)

I've been around long enough to recall when names like Hyundai and Kia were frowned up and laughed at, only to become emerging benchmarks in both quality and style. Changing the mind of a friend is hard enough. Changing the perception of a global marketplace... Well… Bravo to them!

And bravo to you!

I want to thank this forum—its creators, hosts, and members—for the incredible amount of insights and information you so freely share. From engineering to maintenance and everyday livability, your discussions have inspired everything from rare concern to resounding confidence—and the latter wins the day! Good stuff. Great group.

So with sincere thanks I wish you all the "Gene-best"

Push start.
Pedal down.
Motor long and prosper.

Cheers.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I'm glad you found us. Congratulations on your new Hyundai Genesis Sedan! Don't worry, you'll get used to the automatic transmission quickly. It's less engaging, but the Genesis is meant for relaxed cruising. Yes, Hyundai and Genesis has come a long way in a relatively short amount of time. What will the previous owner be replacing their Genesis with?

Thanks Sal. Happy to be here and am looking forward to learning more—as well as a bit of mod-shopping perhaps once I officially grab the keys.

My clutch-pressin' hoof won't know what to do, so will likely hold onto the MINI for a bit. But I'll be especially keen to read about auto-transmission maintenance and keeping any decade-old tech gremlins at bay.

As for what will replace the Genesis… Honestly its vacant spot will likely be filled with spent boxes and old cabinets, and a lifetime of collected artifacts. As I mentioned, every car is a story, and this one comes equipped with the most premium of packages—memories.

I just hope it can acclimate to life outside. For some reason "garages" weren't a huge thing for some late 19th century homebuilders.

I've only had one car with a manual - and never thought I'd like it - but very quickly learned why some people enjoy a manual transmission. I typically prefer a serene, calm, and disconnect drive, so I'm good with automatics. I hope you find the serenity something you learn to enjoy while you're in the Genesis. :)

Great advice and perspective, Sal.

I'll toast to that! (Just not before or while driving, of course.)

Cheers!
