  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all, recently bought a 2015 5.0, without the ultimate package. Loving the car but I would really like to get Android auto going.

There seems to be a great deal of confusion (at least it's confusing me) on how to get it installed. Can anyone confirm the only way to get it now is to pay the 170~ dollars to get the map update, and that it will come with that?

I hate to pay for a map update I probably won't use, but if it gets me AA I would be willing.

Thanks,

Sadly that is the only true legit way to get it now. I got lucky when we bought out used 2015 because the update was still free on the Hyundai site. It is lame that they don't just keep it free and if anyone wants a map, they can pay for that only.

I'll admit I forked over the $145 last night for the new software since my AA has been acting funky since AA has been updated so much on my phone. Getting the updated map was good as a backup if my phone or data was out. Also, they added several features to the actual head unit software that was nice to see.

So if you have the $$, I'd say just go for it.

On a side note, if you bought it from a Hyundai dealer, maybe you can convince them to update it for free.

I forked the $145 over and did it in about an hour and a half.
I foolishly didn't realize that Carplay was not wireless, like the Audi I rented. That was the main appeal for me and is kind of a bummer.

But you can still plug it into the USB and navigate with Waze, and the interface is improved.

Thanks for the replies. I have to say the entire bluelink/AA experience has not been a good one. In particular paying 79 bucks a year for remote start miffed me a bit, really missing it on my key fob.

Luckily these are both minor problems with what is so far the highest quality car I have ever owned. I guess you need to expect a few quirks with Hyundai to go along with the simply amazing ratio of cost to what you get.

Nicely stated, ST. I concur. (y)

get an aftermarket remote start, many can be programmed to work with your OEM fob with a series of button presses (like pressing the lock button 3 times then holding or some such).

Thanks,

If you have the 9" screen and Jog dial in the center console you will not get Android Auto (AA) or Apple Car Play (CP)....Period

If you have the 8" infotainment screen without the jog dial you will get the AA and CP. Since you have a non-ultimate this should be the case.

The updates with AA and CP are strictly for the 8" screen non jog dial infotainment systems.

The 9" jog dial screens do get map updates and other software enhancements but, do not get AA or CP.

There has been a lot of talk on here about AA and CP. Much of the confusion comes from people who say "HE! I GOT AA AND CP!" but don't disclose which infotainment system they are running. So you have all of the jog dial 9" screen people jump in asking more questions.

I have the 9" jog dial system. Only after I bought the car did I find out I was not eligible for AA or CP. It was a bummer but I got over it pretty quick, at least that was my personal experience.

what kind of issues have you had? i also have the original from hyundai site and seems to be working fine with the new version of aa. also does the new update launch aa automatically on connecting the usb or still have to tap the aa icon on the screen? what are the new features for the head unit?
