What firmware of the Genesis headunit are you using? I think I may have found a solution, but wanted to check first. The Mapnsoft release notes for their "10.5" release (which is 09.~something) claims to improve some Android auto issues, but it's $150 for the upgrade and I contacted both Hyundai and Mapnsoft and they said there is no way around that, and they won't verify that the latest 13.5 update will work, so it's a gamble. I wanted to see if you have a version newer than 10.5.

Went ahead and updated and it now works totally fine!

The new (and old) AA is still a hot mess for me as far as messaging goes.

I rarely get the text notifications on the screen. When I ask AA to text someone something, it just creates some random jumble of words as the message, meaning if I say "On my way home" Google will say "Here's your message.....city food car" Makes no sense. And it gets comical since I can just keep saying my same message and I will get just a random word jumble over and over.

Other times it will still act like it's listening when I ask it to call or text someone and just as I'm ready to tell it what to text, AA just shuts off and radio comes back on. It is a nearly useless feature at this point. AA is just good for maps and Spotify now.

That's crazy isn't it! - My text messages seem to work ok, though I still havent committed to the new version yet.
I do have problems when I request an address sometimes that the "google dots" just wave indefinitely. I still havent had time to just sit in the car and sort out the newer version.

restrictions to what? it's a phone. makes calls, sends texts. plays music. surf the internet. does all of this well without any issues.

I like being able to chose what text message app I use, I like that I can easily plug the device into my computer an pull data like pictures off it if I so desired. I can even load my music on and off with ease vs. having to deal with itunes. I like that I can customize the look and feel anytime I want and not have it look so vanilla like every singe iphone does.

I played the iphone game from version 1-4S and at the time thought it was "cool" but soon learned that Android systems and phones had SO much more variety and flexibility so I switched and never plan on going back.

iPhone since 6 have allowed off loading pictures by just plugging in to a mac or pc. It is recognized as a USB drive like a digital camera.

iTunes is no longer required for loading music, while it is simpler with iTunes, it is not required. you can use dropbox, google drive/play, amazon music, media monkey, Spotify Premium pulls from local HDD files, Pandora Premium, WhatsApp, CopyTrans Manager if you are windows user and just want to set the iphone up as a USB drive. and many others.

iTunes is the easiest and frankly the reason I switched from Android to iPhone, because I like order and iTunes is a full blown database that captures and keeps everything in order without me having to deal with folder structure and organizing it myself.

as for the look, for me, couldn't care less as I said, it is a phone it is for making calls, sending texts and for me syncing music. don't care about anything else.

Androids and Google in general are data pirates, their terms of use allow them to take and sell/trade all your data and information gleaned from your devices
e-mails, your location, search terms, google drive contents and much more. Also it is not feasible to explicitly read each and every persons data. They just use data mining approaches on their datacenters(which obviously contain your data) to find out useful patterns which can get them monetary benefits.





to each their own, I don't use Google devices or any google services because of their data mining behaviors. The only reason I moved to iPhone is because I wanted an all in one device, phone, text, music, internet, I was carrying a phone, hotspot and ipod at one point and it was annoying because at the time Android didn't sync music to most cars as easily as an ipod/iPhone did. I was against getting the iPhone at first, but have accepted it as the normal because it is one less thing I need to worry about in my life, it just works 99% of the time and I don't have to think about it. All of my apps, including my personal cloud servers and their specific apps allow me access to all my data, my Office 365 works on it without issue as well; O365 doesn't work on the Samsung or Pixel Android devices.





Carplay works without a hitch and has become my default GPS/Music/Texting app in the car since iOS 13 beta releases as it has the ability to split the screen with music and maps. something the Genesis can't do natively.

I guess if you like your phone to look just like every other iphone user you're good to go. I like widgets that do different things that can provide information on screens that you personalize. Don't really like the pages and pages of icons.
I had a problem in the early days when I had mp3s that were downloaded from other sources- iTunes would either delete some of them or not even list them in my playlists. Got tired of that real quick.

agreed, but a lot of what you are saying doesn't occur with iphones any longer. I don't have pages of icons, I have widgets on my main page, my house alarm, activity, calendar, Verizon data, battery info for connected devices, (watch airpods, etc). weather, maps/traffic..

there are many other widgets available, my bank has one to show me a quick balance in my accounts, most of my credit cards as well. phone contact favorites so I don't have to search through contacts for people I talk to regularly, and several dozen others.

My iPhone is 256gb, with a 256gb memory case attached, allowing me to have 9,600 songs, 71 movies, and currently nearly 12,000 pictures/videos. I have a personal cloud server at home with an app I wrote for it that syncs to all my devices. . Don't see the point in paying Apple or anyone else $15 a month for 50-200gb of cloud storage when I have a 50TB server at home. So I cloud backup all my and my families devices to that.

never had an issue with MP3s from other sources, but I did start with an iPhone 6, didn't use them in the early days, and things drastically changed with the 6 after Steve Jobs passed away and Apple was finally able to enlarge the device. Jobs was dead set against large phones and thought the size of the 4 was perfect for everything.

There are very few differences between what an Android and iPhone can do now, compared to 5 years ago. The major difference to me is the security of my data, Apple still believes that a users data belongs to the user, and Google believes it belongs to them.

My phone is encrypted and secure, it doesn't track my locations or whereabouts, it doesn't feed me adverts based on my search history, and it doesn't keep my data hostage on Apple servers.

I spend my life building and designing corporate networks, last thing I want to worry about is my phone. I am not a "Mac" guy, can't stand MAC PCs, but for my phone and tablet the I-devices are good enough that I don't have to worry about them, they just work.

not trying to convince any one either way, there are Android people and iPhone people, it is what it is, you use what works for you. But there is a lot of misinformation about how iPhones work (and Androids to an iPhone users), Androids are the "PC" of phones, one operating system that works on many devices from many manufacturers. iPhones are proprietary to apple like mac computers. but the guts and internals are the same, cameras by sony, CPUs by intel or Samsung, batteries by Amperex Technology Limited or Tianjin Lishen Battery (same companies that supply Samsung and Google Pixel).

Is anyone still having issue with this? I have a 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T. My android auto worked fine for 6+ months (even with the "new" AA that rolled out a few months back). All of a sudden I started having major issues with my car/radio/AA at the same time. First issue was that when I would remote start my car, when I got inside, the audio was "glitchy". It didn't matter what source I was using, it would just skip every few seconds. I would have to turn off the car, open the door, and restart it manually to fix (this seems to not be happening anymore after about 2 weeks of doing it). Within a week of that was when the AA issues started. First I noticed that my control knob for the radio (the one near the center console) would go in and out from working but ONLY on AA, worked fine on every other screen. For instance lets say I had Spotify playing music and then wanted to scroll to another song, it just wouldn't work and I would have to touch the screen (this is still an issue after about a month). The other "issue" is that EVERY time I connect my device, my "dark mode" setting on my phone, changes to light more. It also changes the android auto from black to white. This is SUPER annoying seeing as I have to go into my setting literally every single time I disconnect from my car and change it back. I recently got the chip update sent to me for the MAP and a few other changes in the radio and that helped but didn't completely solve the problem (ie the knob works about 50/50 now). I have spoken to 3 Hyundai/Genesis dealerships and nobody has any idea what the issue could be. I tried to look it up and can't seem to find anyone else with the same issues. I'm not sure if it is a problem with the car, the app, or the phone...

What I FINALLY found out about the dark/light question you have is that you have to keep your phone on dark mode/theme for it to stay dark. I believe you also have to put AA into developer mode to make the change too (I think.... It's been a year since I was messing with this). I've been having issues with waze when in AA mode in the car lately. Hoping it'll change with the next "update" whenever that happens. I've had sound issues where the volume knob will not work right after start up but just cycling through the modes/inputs on the left side of the steering wheel fixes it. It usually happens when I'm trying to "rush" the sound system when it's first booting up.
