  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello fellow Genesis owners, I ordered an Android Plug & Play CarPlay Radio Unit on AliExpress for a 2011 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Sedan. My vehicle has a monochrome display (see image) and the seller assured me that it's a good fit and also provided a free backup camera. I hope that it'll be an easy install. I'm currently not looking to get any GPS information nor the temperature information via the tablet, but just use CarPlay to be able to use the phone. However, I do plan on taking the car to an installer as I'm not sure how to do this myself. Meanwhile I'm browsing through the forums as others here have installed other tablets / modules and were able to obtain the full car information. Any feedback, links to tutorials or suggestions are welcome.

That plug n play unit looks promising. Can you post pics after install. Might invest in one too.

The package was delivered last evening, and I have an appointment to get this installed on the 3rd of September. I'll keep you all posted as soon as this is done. I will also request the installer to take (if possible) a few photos during the installation.

Installation went very well, I'm working through a few issues with the seller and the installer as the radio isn't working after the installation, nor the offline maps. I may perhaps not need them, as the Apple CarPlay works very well, and it's all wireless.

This head-unit is seriously a game changer (see before-after image below). It's an Android tablet on OS version 10. The installer was also able to re-wire the rearview camera, and it's super clear. It took away the after-market wireless backup camera I installed. and cleared up the dash phone holder. Unable to use the radio directly on the Android tablet, but given that CarPlay takes care of all the audio etc, I probably don't mind at all. I can also use the Android tablet as such with a WiFi hotspot from the mobile. My toddler thinks we have a new car ;)

How do you figure out HVAC controls since i assume it doesn't show up on the android tablet?

Good question, when installing aftermarket components to a vehicle, one may experience some difficulty in preserving the manufacturer's existing control functions. In my case, with this aftermarket display unit, I found that when adjusting the temperature or fan speed, all factory control functions were kept and displayed on the screen. Unfortunately, the only functionality I lost was Sirius XM radio. However, this minor sacrifice enabled me to install an aftermarket solution with greater customization options that still maintained a factory look. I should share that I don't have this 2011 Genesis anymore, sold it to acquire a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Signature w/ Tech Package Sedan. I recently contacted the person I sold it to, and he has had no issues so far.
