If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Wow can't believe what I discovered this week. had to wait a couple of days to make sure...

Long story short...

I am a little fanatic with sound systems...in particular with car stereo's
Most know by now that I have added a sub in my wheel well since I got the car.
I have been noticing that sometimes I don't have as much bass as some other times. It's like some days the bass output is strong and some days it isn't.

Well I guess I found the problem. I DO NOT know how this happens or why but I believe this Lexicon system has a major bug.

Please note that with the added sub this finding makes a HUGE difference.

It seems the Lexicon goes into a state of 1/2 to 2/3 power to the sub.
I discovered by accident that when I press the voice command and say "Cancel" when it comes back to the music, the sub output is at full blast again.

Again I don't know why it does this but it just does. I believe this is the problem that some members seem to see with the lack of bass and find they need to reset it by playing with the bass setting.

I'd like to ask those who have added a sub to please try this test and see if it does the same thing.
Just put music at around 16 volume on a bass beat and after about a minute hit the voice command and say cancel, when the music comes back playing, you should hear a lot more bass. (again please note that it's not always going in this state)

thanks in advance to anyone trying
I have since made it a routine that once the car is started, I always voice command and cancel right away.

PS. I think this has something to do with bluetooth connection...not sure just guessing at this point

Regards,

Are you one of those guys who has the Bass on so loud, you can hear it from two blocks away?

You added a Sub to the car, you think you found the problem, and you believe the Lexicon System has a Major Bug?????

???????????????????????????????????????????????

Dude, chill out.
He's just trying to share his findings and ask others opinion.

Regards,

Interesting find, QTCLG.
I have noticed a huge change in bass when the Bluetooth call comes in, and ends during any source playback.

1. Music on. DVD, mp3, CD, doesn't matter
2. During music playback, have someone initiate an incoming call. (Not sure if outgoing call does the same, can't remember)
3. Hang up the call.
4. You'll notice that the bass is MUCH louder after hanging up the call.

5. Once you change the volume though the steering wheel or the volume knob, the bass will go back to normal(or weak)

To share my opinion from my work experience in handsfree tuning, some handsfree systems have a feature called BWE(Bandswidth Extension).
It extends the bandwidth of the network(Rx) so that the voice from the far end sounds more natural inside the vehicle.
They extend the lower frequency area(bass) and highs also.

So my opinion is, after the handsfree call disconnects, the BWE function doesn't turn off, resulting in boosted bass of the music source.

Ever since I got a fresh Nav software(2010. April version), this problem is now one.
So, the boosted bass is abnormal, and the 'weak bass' most complain is normal.

OKay, I thought you were nuts but I have been testing this for a couple of days...

If I have the source on IPOD and in the middle of a song hit the Voice Command button and say cancel, when the song returns the base level is much higher than it was prior to cancel...

This isn't true on FM...

I haven't tested DVD or XM yet...

Just weird...

How do you report this one to Hyundai?

Actually this was brought up before on this forum. I might have been the only person to respond to the thread though. Anyway, I'm glad there is more confirmation as I thought I was the only one. I usually notice the extra power when I end a phone call, but just as of recently after using the navigation.... So I think its basically whenever the voice command is used or phone system.

My example would be this.

Volume on 10 and listening to music.

I make a phone call with the hands free.

The person hangs up after the call.

The music sounds like it could be on volume 12-14.

I adjust the volume down one click and goes back to normal.

There is definitely is a power boost when the above happens. Its almost like hitting the "Loud" button on the older tape decks.

Ha ha ha! I remember the "loud" buttom on the tape decks, and that's funny as hell.

God I'm getting old.

I tried this twice today, and it made an amazing difference. The first time I was on 4+20, an acoustic Crosby Stills Nash & Young song from Deja Vu; the bottom end of the guitar and the resonance of the voice was much richer after I said "cancel."

The second cut was Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" from Steppenwolf Live, and the song had a pounding vitality after it returned from the "cancel" command.

I was demonstrating it to my wife the second time, and her response was, "Why does saying 'cancel' turn on the subwoofer, and why did you mute it to begin with?"

FYI, this anomaly does not exist in my 2011 4.6 (w/tech) manufactured June, 2010. Bass is at a constant level even after I voice command cancel.

Like I mentioned in my earlier post, that's because you have the updated DIS software.
I also had my system updated to the 2010 April version, which I believe is the latest, this issue went away.

So, is it better to NOT get the latest map update in order to keep the bass boosting phenomenon?

I wouldn't say so. Even in the bass 'boosting' state, even one click of the volume change will make it fall back to the normal state.

Plus, I personally don't like this bass boosted mode. It obviously sounds 'boosted', not balanced.

Upon reading this post way back when, I tried it- worked for me as well. Improves sound response dramatically. Must "dumb-down" the amp when using phone or other non-audio command controls.

Bump...

I just experienced this over the last few days myself. Weird...but remembering this post from a while back, I tried it...and darned if it didn't do the same thing.
press: voice command: say 'cancel'...get more bottom end...
Next time I'm going to say "horsepower" or "more mpg" and see what happens!!!

I had the map update installed awhile back on my 2009 Genesis and it fixed this weak bass issue. The sound system sounds much better now and was a positive externality of getting the map update.
