  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, anybody else having this issue? SO far everytime we get snow or freezing rain, and I need gas, the cheap plastic flap covering the fuel cap will NOT OPEN.

You push the release, you hear the thunk (an the door won't open). BAD design flaw I'm going to have to complain to the Genesis Customer Care center about. Damn annoying.

No, have not experienced this. We have it on the Volvo, however.

Spray some lithium or other water repelling grease on the hinge and latch.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Not on my Genny but did on a Honda. The latch would release but the spring would not open the door. Found that if I pushed in right at the front edge of the door I could open it manually. (push on the other side of the hinge).

Here we have very harsh winters, lots of snow and down to -30 on several occasions, plenty of freezing rain and never have I had a problem on my 2009 or my 2012. Something is not right with yours, most likely the spring mechanism, get it fixed.

hhhhmmmmmm....... in all my years of own many cars, I've never had nor heard of this issue. But, leave it to Hyundai (especially Genesis) to come up with a unique situation.

I have this issue too on my 2009 3.8. Annoying. I may have to try the lithium spray.

It is most likely just ice forming around the edge of the flap.
Next time hit the flap around the edges just with your palm or a similar action, not to damage anything but just to move the flap a bit to break up any of the ice around it.
I used to work at a gas station and this kind of thing happens more than you think, and you can't just push on the corner to open it, our flap won't work that way.
Just hit the edges a couple times if it doesn't open, and then hit the button again. I have gotten mine open every time and there is temperatures down to -40 where I live.

Will it open by pulling the lever in the trunk?
